I am originally from Canada and came to Japan in August, 2002 to work as an Assistant Language Teacher in a Japanese high school. Although I had only intended on staying for one year, I fell in love with the culture, the people and the language. Throughout my three years working as an assistant teacher, I spent nearly every day studying Japanese, becoming more and more fluent.

By my third year I felt confident that I could work well in an entirely Japanese environment and took a job with a small Japanese University, working in their student office. During my year at the University, my Japanese skills improved immensely and I decided to try my hand as a translator. Although I have been doing translation since August, 2005, it was not until August, 2006 that I began working as a translator full-time.

Since August, 2006 and continuing to the present, I have been working in-house for a polyurethane machinery manufacturer 25 hours a week, translating a wide variety of materials, such as business correspondence, company brochures, website content, technical manuals and contracts. During this time I have also been doing freelance translation work that mainly focuses on academic research papers in various fields of health sciences.
