Vous prennez les médicaments? Gare au pamplemousse. Il métabolizerait près de 60% des médicaments existants! C’est-à-dire qu’il potentialise ou au contraire diminue leurs effets, selon les cas. Avec des conséquences parfois redoutables!
Ce fruit diminue la concentration intestinale d’une enzyme - la CYP3A4 - qui intervient dans la dégredation des médicaments. “Par conséquent, son absorption va empêcher le médicament de s’éliminer complètement de l’organisme.” Le constat est vérifié pour les statines donc, mais pas seulement. Il est également déconseillé de boire du pamplemousse avec des benzodiazépines, des médicaments contre le rejet de greffon et certains chemotherapies anticancéreuses.

Source text - French Khartoum. Le 9 janvier 2005, le gouvernement soudanais avait signé un accord avec les rebelles du Sud mettant fin à plus de vingt ans de guerre civile et suscitant un vent d’espoir, retombé depuis.
Un an après la signature d’un accord de paix entre le gouvernement soudanais et le mouvement rebelle du sud du pays, l’Armée de libération du peuple soudanais (SPLA), l’heure n’est plus aux illusions. L’enthousiasme qui avait accompagné la cérémonie de ratification mettant fin à une guerre qui, en vingt ans, avait fait près de 2 millions de morts et le double de déplacés, a été balayé par les difficultés d’application. Le partage du pouvoir entre le gouvernement et le SPLA prévu par l’accord a connu des ratés. Le Parti du congrès national (NCP), le mouvement islamiste au pouvoir depuis le coup d’État de 1989, est parvenu à conserver les ministères clés de l’Économie, de l’Énergie et des Mines, de la Défense et de l’Intérieur. Pire, selon certains experts, il continue, via une sorte d’administration parallèle, à contrôler les ministères officiellement dirigés par le SPLA. Une situation à laquelle ce dernier, désormais surtout concentré sur la perspective de l’indépendance de la région autonome du Sud, semble s’être résolu.
Avec la mort début août dans un accident d’hélicoptère du dirigeant historique du mouvement, John Garang, la vision du « Nouveau Soudan », dans lequel le SPLM aurait oeuvré pour une transformation démocratique de l’ensemble du Soudan en faveur de toutes les régions marginalisées, a perdu de l’ampleur. Désormais, la nouvelle direction du SPLM semble surtout préparer le référendum d’autodétermination du Sud qui, selon les accords de janvier 2005, doit avoir lieu à l’issue d’une période transitoire de six ans.
Translation - English Khartoum. On January 9th, 2005, the Sudanese government signed an accord with the southern rebels putting an end to over twenty years of civil war and sparking a glimmer of hope, which has since dimmed.
One year after the signing of peace accords between the government of Sudan and the rebel movement in the south, the Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA), time has taken its toll on many illusions. The ratification ceremony ended a war which, in twenty years, had left close to 2 million people dead and twice that number displaced, but the enthusiasm accompanying the accord has been undermined by the problems of practical application. The sharing of power between the government and the SPLA, which the treaty made provisions for, has hit more than a few snags. The National Congress Party (NCP), the Islamic movement which has been in power since the 1989 coup d'état, has managed to hold on to the key ministries of Finance and Economy, Energy and Mining, Defense, and Interior. Worse still, according to some experts, the party continues, via a sort of parallel administration, to control the ministries officially overseen by the SPLA. A situation which the later, from now on primarily concentrated on the prospective independence of the autonomous southern region, seems to have accepted.
Visions of the “New Sudan,” in which the SPLA would work toward a democratic transformation of the whole of Sudan in favor of all marginalized regions, have narrowed since John Garange, the movement’s historic leader, died in a helicopter accident in early August. From now on, the new direction of the SPLA seems to deal primarily with preparing South Sudan’s referendum on self-determination which, according the January 2005 accords, must take place over the course of a six year transitory period.

Rappel : lorsqu’un faisceau d’ondes arrive sur une surface (faisceau incident), une partie de la lumière est renvoyée, c’est la réflexion, l’autre pénètre dans le matériau (si celui-çi n’est pas opaque) en changeant légèrement de direction, c’est la réfraction. Les directions des rayons réfléchis et réfractés dépendent de la nature du matériau et de l’angle du rayon incident par rapport à la surface.
La lumière réfléchie se trouve partiellement polarisée et même totalement si le faisceau incident a un angle particulier appelé incidence de Brewster. Cet angle d’incidence dépend des matériaux : à l’interface air-verre il vaut 56° et à l’interface air-eau 53°. Plus l’angle d’incidence est éloigné de cette valeur, moins la lumière réfléchie est polarisée. Le plan de polarisation du faisceau réfléchi est parallèle au plan de réflexion : une surface horizontale comme l’eau par exemple, donnera un plan de polarisation horizontal.
BIREFRINGENCE
Structure : Dans un milieu où les atomes sont mobiles ou distribués de façon aléatoire (comme le verre ou les liquides), la lumière se comporte de la même façon dans toutes les directions, on dit qu’ils sont isotropes. Par contre dans un cristal, les atomes ont des empilements réguliers qui font que la lumière ne se propage pas de la même manière selon les directions, on dit qu’ils sont anisotropes.
Le spath d’islande, une variété de calcite, a cette propriété, qu’on appelle biréfringence, car il s’agit de deux réfractions différentes simultanées. La biréfringence est due à la structure cristalline
POUVOIR ROTATOIRE
Certaines substances sont optiquement actives : elles font tourner le plan de polarisation de la lumière qui les traversent, c’est le cas du quartz ou d’une solution de saccharose.
Molécules chirales : L’activité optique est due à la géométrie de leurs molécules, sans plan de symétrie ; comme deux mains, ces molécules peuvent avoir deux configurations : elles ont la même forme mais « en miroir » et donc ne sont pas superposables (on les appelle chirales ou énantiomètres). L’une fera tourner la lumière vers la droite (on dit dextrogyre), l’autre vers la gauche (on dit lévogyre). La découverte de ces molécules chirales date de 1874 (J.Van’t Hoff et A. Lebel).

Refresher: when a beam of waves hits a surface (beam incident), one part of the light bounces off – this is reflection – while the other penetrates the material (if it is not opaque) and changes its direction slightly – this is refraction. The direction of reflected and refracted rays depends on the nature of the medium and the angle of the incident ray to the surface.
Reflected light is partially or even totally polarized if the beam incident has a certain angle, which is known as Brewster’s angle. This angle of incidence depends on the material: measuring 56° for the air-to-glass interface and 53° for the air-to-water interface. The larger the margin between the angle of incidence and this value, the less the reflected light is polarized. The plane of polarization of the reflected beam is parallel to the plane of reflection: a horizontal surface like water, for example, will produce a horizontal plane of polarization.

Structure: In an environment where the atoms are mobile or distributed in a random fashion (as in glass or liquids), the light behaves in the same way in every direction. Atoms that react with light in this way are isotropic. In a crystal, on the other hand, the atoms are stacked in regular patterns, which means that light moves differently depending on its direction. Atoms that react with light in this way are anisotropic.
Island spath, a variety of calcite, has this property, which is known as birefringence because it refers to the two dissimilar yet simultaneous refractions. Birefringence is due to the crystalline structure.
SPECIFIC ROTATION
Certain substances optically active. They turn the plane of polarization of the light that passes through them, as is the case for light passing through quartz or a sucrose solution.
Chiral Molecules: The optic activity is caused by the geometry of their molecules, which lack a plane of symmetry. Like two hands, these molecules can have two configurations: they have the same shape, but are “mirror images,” and therefore are not able to be superimposed (they are known as chirals or enantiomers). One will cause the light to turn to the right (called dextrorotatory), the other to the left (called levorotatory). The discovery of these chiral molecules dates back to 1874 (J.Van’t Hoff and A. Lebel).
