I was born on the Iran-Iraq border; I have a foot in Iraq and one in the rest of the world I can imagine in my translation pair; lets call it Iran. They are two distinct realities but Kurdish has put them close. While the formal language of Iraq is Arabic and it is Farsi for Iran, Kurdish Sorani is a language widely spoken in Iran and Iraq and it is the only common language between the two countries. I am a native of both Farsi (Persian) and Kurdish.
