New EU regulations requiring countries to achieve a 20 percent drop in CO2 emissions by 2020, with a further 20 percent of energy being produced from renewable and sustainable sources, is putting pressure on governments to make serious changes in the way power is produced.
While sustainable and renewable energy sources will become more important, and will take more and more of the strain over the coming decades, they cannot yet fulfill all our energy needs.
Fossil fuels remain an integral part of the energy mix and as the global energy landscape changes, technologies that reduce their environmental impact will play a vital role in meeting environmental targets.
So how can we ensure we produce the energy we need while reducing the environmental impact of fossil fuel use?
Over the past decade co-firing, where energy is produced through burning a combination of both coal and biomass (reducing CO2 emissions without reducing the amount of energy produced) has seen huge growth.
This technology is key to reducing the environmental impact of fossil fuels while protecting existing reserves and guaranteeing energy supply.
The UK is committed to making these changes with the government recently pledging £12 million to help cover the costs of biomass development and installation.
At the same time the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) has already allocated £55 million to establish biomass power stations, with the UK planning to source 15 percent of its energy from renewable sources by 2020.
Earlier this year, following a period of research and development, the UK’s largest and cleanest coal-fired power station Drax, launched an £18 million project to enable it to burn renewable biomass materials.
On completion this biomass co-firing facility at Drax will be the largest of its type in the world.
Based in the Yorkshire and Humber region Drax is leading the way in implementing technologies designed to reduce the impact of the burning of fossil fuels.
Their expertise in the rollout of projects in this field takes the UK one step closer to a low carbon economy while delivering reliable, secure electricity supplies.
The co-firing technologies that Drax is implementing will reduce the emissions the power station produces by 17.5 percent, and together with the 3 biomass power stations it is also commissioning, Drax will be producing 15 percent of the UK’s total renewable power and 10 percent of the country’s total electricity.
The environmental technologies sector in Yorkshire and Humber offers access to the latest advances in clean technology.
The region boasts a new £200 million facility, built by BP in partnership with DuPont and Associated British Foods, to produce second generation biofuels.
This site in Hull is expected to produce 420 million litres of bioethanol a year and drive future development of this new technology.
The site will also host a demonstration plant producing 20,000 litres of biobutanol fuel annually from foodstocks.
The region also offers pioneering academic research in this area.
The University of Sheffield is a world-leading research centre for thermal conversion of waste and biomass and has a global reputation for innovative investigations into combustion, gasification and pyrolysis of biomass/waste and the associated electrical power generation systems.

1. इसके लिए एक आइडिया का होना जरुरी है और लोगों को इसे समझना चाहिए और उसे सफलता में बदलने वाली दृढ़ प्रेरक शक्ति भी होनी चाहिए।
2. यह याद रखें कि आप रातों-रात अमीर नहीं बन सकते।
3. एक अवसर की तलाश करें और उसे पूरा करने तथा उसमें निहित जोखिम उठाने का साहस रखें।
4. अपने आइडिया को प्रतियोगिता की गति से भी तेजी के साथ हकीकत में बदलने के लिए प्रेरित करें ।
5. सर्वोत्तम गुणवत्ता वाला उत्पाद रखें और सर्वोत्तम डील करें।
6. अर्जित धन का निवेश करें।
अपने जीने का अंदाज बदलें और घिसी-पिटी जिंदगी को छोड़, अपनी इच्छाओं को पूरा करें! आपका पेशा क्या है और आपके पास कितना समय है, यह कोई मायने नहीं रखता क्योंकि व्यावसायिक अवसर समय से बंधे नहीं होते, इसलिए इसका फायदा उठायें। यह आपकी इच्छा की गुणवत्ता, आपकी क्षमता और आत्म-विश्वास और उस आइडिया की सफलता की संभाव्यता पर आधारित है, जो किसी भी मामले में एक अनुकूल स्थिति है।
