Source text - English One of 30 'cases' for children to solve, taken from the book "The Magic Detectives" by Joe Nickell “Channeling” is supposedly a method of communicating with spirits of the dead. Typically, the “channeler” appears to go into a trance, seeming to become a “channel” for the spirit’s communication. That is, the spirit supposedly speaks through the channeler. Originally known as “spiritualism”, channeling began in 1848 with two young girls, Margaret and Katherine Fox; it soon became an international craze. They lived with their father. a Methodist minister, and their mother, a simple, superstitious woman, in a farmhouse at the village of Hydeville, New York. One night strange knocking or rapping sounds began to be heard. They seemed to confirm the story that the house was haunted by the ghost of a murdered peddler. The raps appeared to center around the young girls, coming from their room although they seemed to be asleep. Before long, the Fox sisters learned they could communicate with the ghost whom they named “Mr. Splitfoot”. He responded to their questions by knocking a certain number of times to signal yes, no, or other simple answers. “Mr. Splitfoot” followed the girls wherever they went. They even discovered they could communicate with other spirits, whether they were recently dead or had died a thousand years ago. Soon, assisted by their older sister, the girls traveled all over the United States, promoting their “Spiritualist” society. They continued as “mediums” (as channelers were then called) off and on for the remainder of their lives. Meanwhile, many other mediums began to hold séances and to call up spirits. On occasion the Fox sisters were challenged by scientific investigators. Some thought the rapping sounds came from under the table where Margaret sat. Source text - English The Client is the Principal of the works in the sense of CO Art. 363 et seq. 3.2 The Client shall appoint a Project Manager. The Client may designate a different person as Project Manager and, if it does so, shall notify the General Contractor of such. Der Projektleiter ist für alle mit dem Werk im Zusammenhang stehenden Fragen der zentrale Ansprechpartner für den Generalunternehmer, auf den er alle Vollmachten überträgt, die erforderlich sind, um im seinem Auftrag im Zusammenhang mit dem Werk handeln zu können. 3.3 Der Projektleiter hat folgende Aufgaben: a. Koordination der bauherrenseitigen Projektorganisation. b. Kontroll- und Weisungsrecht gegenüber dem Generalunternehmer. c. Koordination der bauherrenseitigen Genehmigungen von Plänen, Materialien und Farbwahl. d. Abstimmung mit dem Bauherrn in Bezug auf Änderungsvorschläge und –genehmigungen einschliesslich Änderungen mit Kosten- und Terminfolgen. e. Abstimmung mit dem Bauherrn in Bezug auf die Ausübung des Vorschlagsrechts und Mitspracherechts bei der Wahl von Subunternehmern und Lieferanten. f. Koordination der bauherrenseitigen Prüfung, Zustimmung und Freigabe von Zahlungen gemäss den vertraglichen Zahlungsbedingungen, Genehmigung zur Begleichung der Schlussabrechnung. g. Koordination der bauherrenseitigen Abnahme des Werks und Geltendmachung der Gewährleistungsrechte. 3.4 Die seitens des Bauherrn am Bauvorhaben interessierten Dritten (Grundbesitzer, andere Mieter, Kreditgeber) haben keine Vertretungsbefugnis gegenüber dem Generalunternehmer.
