Dodatkowym czynnikiem, który negatywnie wpływa na wsparcie procesów biznesowych przez systemy informatyczne jest sam dynamiczny rozwój aplikacji i konieczność zapewnienia współpracy pomiędzy „starymi” i „nowymi” systemami. Częstokroć korzyści uzyskiwane w wyniku wdrożenia systemów informatycznych konsumowane są przez budżety działów informatyki przeznaczane między innymi na budowę interfejsów między aplikacjami oraz ulepszanie i dostosowywanie aplikacji do zmieniających się w szybkim tempie wymagań biznesu.
Biorąc pod uwagę fakt, że systemy informatyczne przenikają wszystkie sfery działania firm, ich budżety stanowią poważne obciążenie finansowe,
a dostarczane rozwiązania nie wspierają efektywnie procesów biznesowych (wyniki badań przeprowadzonych w 2003 roku prze The Standish Group’s CHAOS wskazały, że sukcesem zakończyło się zaledwie 1% dużych projektów przy budżecie powyżej $10 mln) należy stwierdzić, że stosowane praktyki wymagają zmiany.
Z przedstawionych powyżej obserwacji wynika potrzeba zastosowania rozwiązań umożliwiających lepszą współpracę między sobą różnych systemów informatycznych wykorzystywanych przez firmy oraz lepsze wsparcie dla działań biznesu ze strony informatyki, w tym także dla zarządzania procesami biznesowymi.

An additional factor which has a negative effect on the support of business processes by information systems is the very speed of development of the applications themselves and the need to ensure compatibility between “new” and “old” systems. Often the benefits gained as a result of implementing systems are swallowed up by information department budgets meant, inter alia, for the building of interfaces between applications and improving and adapting applications to the quickly changing demands of business.
Taking into account the fact that information systems penetrate every sphere of company activities, their budgets are a serious financial drain and the solutions they provide do not support business processes effectively. (The results of studies carried out in 2003 by the Standish Group’s CHAOS showed that just 1% of large projects over $10 million succeeded, it can be asserted that the user practices need changing.
From the above observation it can be seen that the need arises to use solutions enabling better cooperation between the various information systems used by companies and better support for business activities on the information technology side including the management of business processes.
