I specialize in translations of academic articles in the social sciences as well as human rights and other NGO projects and reports.
BACKGROUND
Qualifications and Skills:
Service orientation: Providing the best possible service to others has been a constant during my varied professional life as a translator, NGO staffer, professor, volunteer, and librarian.
Information retrieval skills: If I don't know something, I know where to find it. In addition to a large reference library of my own, I have excellent internet research skills and network with specialists in various fields.
Attention to detail: Translation requires it and I provide it.
Broad cultural and intellectual background: Growing up bi-cultural in an intellectual family in the United States stimulated a lifelong interest in other countries and cultures. Sixteen years in Peru and a Ph.D. in comparative politics from the State University of New York at Buffalo expanded my horizons even more. This breadth of knowledge contributes in many ways to the preparation of high quality translations.
Translation experience:
For Latin American universities, researchers and a Ford Foundation project: academic articles in the fields of sociology, political science, economics, management, and anthropology.
For Peruvian and North American NGOs: funding proposals and reports; human rights reports; letters.
