IT システムが企業の基幹業務を担っている現在では、その役割は極めて大きく、さらに、それを支える建物や設備などのファシリティは IT システムの重要な要素であり、IT システムの安全かつ安定した運営にはファシリティとの総合的適合性を視野にいれた環境構築が必要不可欠です。
また、昨今、企業の IT システムを取り巻く環境は、IT 機器の電源問題、熱問題 (環境問題) において以下の 3 つ問題が顕在化しています。
(1) IT 機器の高性能化・高密度化
インターネット等の普及で IT 機器への需要は年々増加の一途をたどっています。また、限られた設置スペースにより多くのシステムを設置することを目的に、IT 機器は高密度化、高性能化が進んでおり、ラック型サーバやブレード型サーバなどの比率が高まっています。
その一方で、最新の高性能 CPU は、性能向上とともに消費電力・発熱量が増加しています (最新のインテル Xeon プロセッサ 1 基あたりの消費電力は 1 年前の約 60% 増)。さらにシステム構築の傾向としてサーバコンソリデーションが進み、1箇所に大きな電力消費と高い発熱を伴うサーバが大量に設置される傾向が強まり、電源インフラや空調システムの容量不足などの問題が顕在化してきています。このことから、ますます安定的な電源供給インフラとシステムルームを適温に保つ空調システムの重要性が高まっています。

With IT systems now carrying out core business operations, the role it plays is highly significant. Supporting facilities, such as buildings and equipment, are critical elements and it is thus vital to structure an environment that offers integral compatibility with the facilities in order to manage a safe and stable IT system.
Furthermore, the current environment surrounding enterprise IT systems has highlighted the following three issues regarding IT device power and heat (and environmental) problems.
(1) Higher performance and density of an IT device
Diffusion of the Internet has annually increased the demand for IT devices. To install the largest possible number of systems in a limited space, performance and density of these IT devices is getting more and more advanced, raising the proportion of rack and blade servers.
On the other hand, the latest high-performance CPU has not only increased performance but also power consumption and heat generation (power consumption of the latest Intel Xeon processor has increased about 60% per processor compared to the year before). Likewise, server consolidation is now the increasing tendency in system architecture, with a large number of servers with massive power consumption and heat generation being installed in one location. This has accentuated problems in the power infrastructure and air-conditioning system capacity; a stable power supply infrastructure and air-conditioning systems that maintain optimum room temperature are now more crucial than ever. |
