After my undergraduate degree in German and Czech from the university of Cambridge, I lived in Ljubljana, Slovenia for three years learning the language and teaching. I then took a Master of Studies degree in historical research at Oxford, gaining cultural context and research skills which I have used in my translating work since.

I have worked as German-speaking tour guide at the Royal Pavilion, Brighton, the only former royal palace in the United Kingdom now owned by the local city council, and for the German-language desk at the customer service division of American Express. For three years I taught undergraduate translation courses for the German department of a leading London university.

My watchwords as a translator are strict grammatical accuracy in understanding the source text matched by fluent, readable language in the target text.
