pour Air X ?
28 Juillet 2003

| Translation - English What Image Should Air X Project?

Background
Air X has become the leading low-cost airline company in Europe, especially in France. This high-performance company is not well known to French media, and does not yet enjoy the image to which it could legitimately lay claim. Air X’s reputation in France is rather weak, and the company’s image is still unclear. Repeated attacks by the major air carriers and lawsuits for unfair competition have added to the confusion.
Furthermore, the reputation of low-cost companies is that they mistreat their employees, providing minimal benefits – and some articles, including the one that appeared last May in the French periodical Alternatives Economiques, pick up that cliché, damaging the company’s image.
This unclear image, which suffers from a negative connotation, is paradoxical and dangerous.
Paradoxical in that Air X is attracting customers in droves. Air X sees a 30% increase in customers yearly, has a high fill factor and leads in on-time service in Europe.
Dangerous in that it may suggest to potential customers that Air X slashes prices at the expense of safety. And it may suggest to the business world that Air X’s success will be fleeting, because it's based on a fragile economic model.
Naturally, the competition eagerly passes these arguments on to the press.
So we must react with the drive to build a clear and lasting image over time.
