About me

I was born in Indonesia and raised in a number of places in the world.  When I was little, I found that to be a drag, but as I get older I consider that a blessing :)

Once upon a time, when I lived in Europe, I studied and spoke fluent German.  Unfortunately, that skill is lost in time as I did not maintain it.  But that experience spawned an affinity toward languages and cultures.  I learned that language and culture are like two sides of the same coin.  In order to better understand the language, one should know (or at least learn a little bit about) the culture that speak the language.  I am amazed how the same spoken language in different countries can be affected by each country's culture differently.

Prior to 2004, I had been living in an English speaking country for almost 10 years.  That much exposure to the local culture helped me understand better about the English language (ie. meaning and usage of the language, both formal and informal).

As I returned to Indonesia, I got a job in market/marketing research and I got into translating by coincidence on the job.  I no longer work in market research, but I continue doing translations (and interpreting) to this day as a freelancer.

In 2007, I formed a collaboration with other freelance professionals and established an outsourcing agency handling linguistic and market research services.
