Algunas abuelas desafortunadas no cogen nunca ramas nuevas de camino abajo.
Y ellas llueven constantamente.
Las abuelas llueven de maneras differentes:
Las mas testarudas quieren ser primeras y se lanzan con las cabezas abajo como pinguinos.
Sus mandíbulas estan abiertas y se pueden ver filas de dientes blancos y grandes preparados para sujetar la primera rama que cogen.
Algunas abuelas caen con las piernas flacas apuntando hacia abajo.
Esa es todo lo que se ve de ellas porque sus faldas colgadas tapan sus cuerpos y sus caras. A ellas no les importa que no vean las ramas fuertes.
Muchas abuelas caen desnudas.
Las que son timidas intentan taparse durante la caida. Se parece una dansa de "Abuelas desnudas" y las que no son timidas ríen de ellas.
Cada vez que me llueve a sobre una abuela tengo que reír porque me da cosillas.
Cuando me llueven a sobre todas creo que moriré de tanto reír.

Some unlucky Grandmothers never catch any new branches on their way down.
And they rain forever and ever.
Grandmothers rain in different ways:
The most stubborn want to be first, and dive with their heads down, like penguins.
Their jaws are agape and you can see rows of huge, white teeth ready to clamp the first branch they catch.
Some Grandmothers fall with their skinny legs pointing down.
That’s all you can see of them, because their hovering skirts cover body and face. They don’t care that they can’t see the strong branches.
A lot of Grandmothers fall naked.
The shy ones try to cover themselves during the fall. It looks like a dance of “Naked Grandmothers” and those who aren’t shy laugh at them.
Every time a Grandmother rains on me I have to laugh because it tickles.
When they all rain on me I think I’ll die laughing.

L'Associació XXX aplega en el seu ideari fundacional i constitutiu dues línies de pensament prou clares: la del municipalisme i la del nacionalisme.
La del municipalisme, perquè entenem que el municipi és el nivell bàsic d'organització política i social, que permet als ciutadans participar en decisions que afecten directament el seu entorn, i al mateix temps facilita a cada un d'aquests ciutadans els serveis bàsics per al seu desenvolupament.
No ha estat pas per atzar que els ajuntaments, entesos com a governs municipals, hagin assumit, des de sempre, serveis que sovint depassaven llur capacitat econòmica i de gestió. Per aquest motiu, l'Associació XXX considera que cal potenciar al màxim la capacitat d'aquests ens i facilitar, en aquest mateix sentit, les iniciatives que facin possible que el municipi desenvolupi amb tota comoditat els serveis que els seus ciutadans li reclamen. Aquesta idea, que l'any 1981 va motivar la constitució d'aquesta XXX, continua avui vigent.

Two clear lines of thought are conjoined in the foundational and constitutional philosophy of the Association XXX: that of municipalism and that of nationalism.
Municipalism, because we understand that the municipality is the basic level of social and political organization that allows citizens to participate in decisions which have a direct effect on their environment and, at the same time, provides basic services for the development of each of these citizens.
It is no coincidence that Town Councils, understood as municipal governments, have always assumed responsibility for services which often go beyond their financial and administrative capacities. For this reason, the Association XXX considers it important to fully potentialize the capacity of these bodies and, in the same way, facilitate the initiatives which enable the municipality to effectively develop the services which its citizens call for. This idea, which led to the constitution of XXX in 1981, continues in force today.

El triunfo de las series de televisión – formato visual de la obsoleta novela por entregas – extiende en el tiempo sus meandros narrativos sin dar muestras de cansancio, excepto quizá en los ojos de un espectador convertido en adicto argumental – probablemente porque su vida de ciudadano sea resumible en dos líneas–. (En el otro extremo del formalismo, el abuso de la acción cinematográfica y de los efectos especiales suplen una pobreza argumental en este caso nada disimulada). ¿Cómo la narración literaria pretenderá competir con la narratividad del imagógrafo? Si, como dice Michel Butor, actualmente el cine cumple las funciones que hasta el siglo XX cumplía la novela, o bien por un lado la novela ha muerto, o bien ésta debe desembarazarse de una estructura narrativa que le ha sido desapropiada, para así servir de contrapeso a la estrecha urdimbre de sentido tejida por el dispositivo especular. En cuanto al cine: convertido en extensión de la caja-tonta, instrumentalizado por el imagógrafo como máquina de estereotipia global, sometido a imperativos y deformaciones ajenos a su naturaleza, ya no cabe hablar de cine. The triumph of television – the visual format of the obsolete serial novel – extends its meandering narratives over time without showing any signs of exhaustion except, perhaps, in the eyes of a spectator who has been converted into a storyline addict, probably because their everyday life can be summed up in two lines. At the other extreme of formalism, the abuse of cinematographic action and special effects make up for a barely concealed deficiency of plot. How can literary narration try to compete with the narrativity of the imagograph? If, as Michel Butor says, cinema today carries out the functions which were carried out by the novel until the twentieth century, then either the novel has died, or it must de-impregnate itself of a narrative structure which it has been disappropriated of, in order to act as a counterweight to the narrow scheme of meaning which is woven by the speculative device. Cinema, which has been converted into an extension of the idiot box, utilized by the imagograph as a global stereotyping machine, submitted to imperatives and deformations which are alien to its nature, is no longer worth discussing. Passejar pel barri Vell de Girona ens evoca un passat multicultural, amb una trama urbana fruit de la superposició històrica visible a través del passat romà, pal•leocristià i jueu; entre el que destaca un dels barris jueus més extensos i ben conservats d’Europa, així com l’excepcional passeig arqueològic de la muralla.
El llegat popular es pot resseguir pels carrers, tot creuant els ponts i les cases de l’Onyar. El centre històric, a més, ens va desvetllant molts racons amb una presència religiosa monumental; amb la Catedral, Sant Feliu i Sant Pere de Galligants i diversos museus que enriquiran la nostra mirada a través de la història, l’art i el cinema.

Strolling through the old quarter of Girona takes us back to a multicultural past, with an urban landscape which is fruit of the historical superimposition visible through the Roman, Paleochristian and Jewish pasts. One of the most extensive and well-conserved Jewish quarters of Europe is particularly noteworthy as is the exceptional archaeological walk running along the old city.
The popular legacy can be traced by walking along the streets, crossing the bridges and taking in the houses of the River Onyar. The historical centre also unveils many nooks which have great religious presence such as the Cathedral, Sant Feliu and Sant Pere de Galligants, and different museums which enrich our perspective through history, art and cinema.

Originally from the north of England, I lived in Catalonia between 1992 and 1997 before moving back to England to pursue academic interests. I then moved back to Catalonia in 2009 where I am now happily established as a freelance translator and proofreader.
With a PhD in English literature and a BA in Cultural Studies, I also work part-time as an Associate University Lecturer in humanities; previously in England and now in Catalonia at the Universitat de Girona.
