Η Εύβοια χαρακτηρίζεται, και δικαίως, ως ο παράδεισος της παλαιοντολογίας και της αρχαιολογίας. Η νήσος των περίφημων Αβάντων, στην οποία ήκμασαν σπουδαίες ελληνικές πόλεις, δυο μάλιστα από τις σπουδαιότερες (Χαλκίς και Ερέτρια), κρύβει στα σωθικά της μυστικά, από τα οποία ελάχιστα έχουν έρθει στο φως .Τα πιο πολλά περιμένουν την παλαιοντολογική και αρχαιολογική σκαπάνη να τα ξεθάψουν, για να μας αποκαλύψουν ένα παρελθόν ,που είναι σίγουρο ότι , όχι μόνο θα εμπλουτίσει τις γνώσεις μας γι αυτό, αλλά θα ανατρέψει παράλληλα ιστορικά δεδομένα και θεωρίες που ισχύουν ως σήμερα.
Τα Καμπιά, το ορεινό χωριό στο Δήμο Διρφύων, λίγο πριν τη Στενή, που περήφανα αγναντεύει από τα ύψη τον πλούσιο κάμπο και την απέραντη θάλασσα, είναι μια χαρακτηριστική περίπτωση των παραπάνω. Μέχρι το καλοκαίρι του 2004, τίποτα δεν είχα ακουστά για αυτό το «βλαχοχώρι» με τις πλούσιες πηγές και την αειθαλή βλάστηση, βοσκότοπος που τράβηξε σαν μαγνήτης σε παλιότερες εποχές του περιπλανώμενους τσοπαναραίους Βλάχους από την Ήπειρο και τη Θεσσαλία.

Evia is characterized, and rightfully so, as a paleontologist’s and archaeologist’s paradise. The island of the famous Avantes, on which great Greek cities flourished, especially two of the greatest (Chalkis and Eretria), conceals in it’s loin secrets, of which few have come into light. Most of them await the paleontological and archaeological hoe to unearth them, to reveal a past, that is certain to not only enrich our knowledge on it, but will overturn parallel historical facts and theories that have been valid until today.
Kampia, a mountainous area village in the Township of Dirphia, just before you reach Stenie, that proudly views from high above the fertile fields and the vast sea, is a characteristic case of the above. Up to the summer of 2004, I had never heard of this “Vlach-village” with its rich flowing springs and the perennial flora, a grazing pasture, that as if a magnet, attracted in older times the roaming Vlach shepherds from Epirus and Thessaly.
