Or From the Windows system tray, double-click the Wireless Manager status icon . The Wireless Manager status icon is displayed in the system tray only when Wireless Manager is active. Note: To successfully run the Wireless Manager application, a SIM card must be inserted in your Sony Ericsson PC card. If your PC card includes wireless LAN functionality, the wireless LAN features may be used without a SIM card inserted. To access the Sony Ericsson Wireless Utility that is used to manage wireless LAN functionality, right-click the Wireless Utility status icon in the Windows system tray and select Open Wireless Utility. 2. If requested, enter your SIM card PIN and Phone Lock code, and then click OK. You are allowed three attempts to enter the correct PIN and lock code. Source text - English Purchasing: Ambitious targets in 2006 Since mid-2005, purchasing within XXX has undergone a fundamental change: what was in the past a local function has become a centralized BU activity. The centralization of purchasing has coincided with other moves to more tightly organize BU operations centrally. According to XXX, BU Purchasing Manager, the move has meant a better cooperating organization capable of quicker decision making. And that’s especially important because one of the major strategies for improving results focuses on significant cost-cutting on the purchasing side. “In 2006,” says XXX, “we have very ambitious targets. Our goal is to achieve savings of 5.3 million euros, of which 4 million in raw materials and 1.3 million in packaging and other XXX specific materials, like bodyshop equipment and color documentation. We’ve had considerable savings in the years before, but it gets more difficult every year to achieve them, especially in markets subject to severe price increases. So, with our new structure we are capable of running the extra mile in order to achieve the target”. The BU XX stands out in keeping raw material prices under control for it has been able to keep price indexes on the lowest level within Coatings. “In the past, every location or SBU had its own purchasing department. The way we work now, everyone in the purchasing organization is sharing responsibilities. We can use the expertise of different teams on different sites to accomplish our global mission, while at the same time the sites and SBU’s are supported in their specific purchasing needs .” There is a clear benefit for the purchasing people as well, as they have a wider scope and are better capable of balancing local and global priorities. The core team consists of XXX in Brazil, XXX in the US, XXX in Spain, XXX and XXX in Sassenheim, XXX in China, and XXX in Indonesia. Because the costs of raw materials are such a significant portion of the BU’s total expenses, a special effort is underway to trim expenses in this area. “What we are doing is working with R&D to look at alternative raw materials,” explains Paul. “When we have alternatives, then it is possible to exert some leverage on a supplier to get a better price.” 3 Cross functional teams have been set up for pigments, resins, and other key raw materials. Each team develops proposals for potential cost-savings from alternatives, which are then reviewed by the steering team to determine if they are acceptable in terms of performance, branding consistency, and marketing. XX is able to keep track of raw material spend through XCPS (XXX Coatings Purchasing System). “XCPS is very useful because it is a storehouse of all the data on raw material purchasing for the entire coatings group.” It provides direction and priorities for cost saving initiatives. XX adds that XX has also exploited e-auction systems for the purchase of certain raw materials, such as isocyanates. “An e-auction system is ideal for commodity purchasing, but it’s less useful for strategic raw materials, because there you want to build and maintain strategic relationships with your suppliers.” VMI (Vendor Managed Inventory / consignment stock arrangements) initiatives are also taken with strategic suppliers, reducing costs in the chain for both supplier and customer. Another significant strategy for cost savings is through the XXX XXX company-wide NPR project for “non-product related” purchases. “The NPR project focuses on purchases which are not specific to a BU’s activities, like furniture, computers, road transport, lease cars and travel. With NPR, a priority list of such items has been drawn up in Arnhem, and for each of those items, a team with representatives from various BUs looks at ways to use company-wide synergies to reduce purchasing costs. For example, the company now works on global level with a single provider for all leased cars. But negotiating better prices is really only half the battle. “If you get better prices, but you don’t cut your budgets to reflect the changes, you don’t save anything on the bottom line,” says XXX.
