When diversity came knocking!
Nearly two years ago, the popular weekly intercultural TV programme, Mosaik, was taken off air in Sweden. This programme had been well recognised for more than 15 years on Swedish Television (SVT), a nationwide public service TV channel.
We, the editors, journalists and staff, were all desolated. All of us were of different origins, and the programme had developed concurrently with the progress in Swedish society. Mosaik had been a good greenhouse for new journalists and our skills improved as the years went by. And last but not least, our viewers – mostly immigrants as well as Swedish people involved in immigrant matters – were highly appreciative of this unique programme.
However looking back, one can see that the result of this sudden change was quite an eye-opener. It dawned on us that many of our TV colleagues looked upon Mosaik as an alibi and they themselves did not care much about the multicultural society this programme was aiming at, unless it was in reference to mistreated refugees, or foreigners who committed crimes or had housing problems. The typical victim journalism at its worst.

We will be working across different “diversities” – such as gender, sexual orientation, disability, age and cultural, religious and ethnic diversity. This work will strengthen the links between different marginalised groups who normally work separately. This could be the beginning of true interculturalism. To share experience, to widen networks, to work out new ways of implementation and to talk about ways of making the whole business diverse.
This means even more contact and new relations with society, which also includes strong and respectful relations with NGOs. It is true that independence of the public service organs is paramount, but at the same time, we need to look beyond old structures and behaviours and create a mutual liaison. Some might call it political correctness, but we need to move with the development in society, we need to constantly evolve, but to practice equality, show respect and be inclusive.

Quando la diversità bussò alla porta
In Svezia, circa due, anni fu interrotta la trasmissione di Mosaik, il popolare programma televisivo interculturale. Questo programma della televisione svedese SVT, un canale televisivo pubblico a livello nazionale, era assai noto da oltre quindici anni.
Noi tutti, editori, giornalisti e staff, ne fummo desolati. Eravamo tutti di origini diverse e il programma si era sviluppato in concomitanza con il progresso della società svedese. Mosaik è stato un’ottima fucina per nuovi giornalisti e le nostre capacità sono migliorate col passare degli anni. Ultimo, ma non meno importante, i nostri telespettatori – per la maggior parte immigranti, ma anche svedesi coinvolti in questioni riguardanti gli immigranti – apprezzavano molto questo programma così unico.
Tuttavia, riflettendoci, si può dire che questo cambiamento improvviso ci abbia aperto gli occhi. Ci era diventato chiaro che molti dei nostri colleghi della televisione guardavano Mosaik come alibi, mentre non gli importava molto della società multiculturale cui questo programma mirava, se non in riferimento a rifugiati maltrattati, o stranieri che commettevano crimini, o che avevano problemi di alloggio. Insomma, il peggio del tipico giornalismo vittimistico.

Lavoreremo tra “diverse diversità” quali genere, orientamento sessuale, disabilità, età e diversità culturale, religiosa ed etnica. Questo lavoro rafforzerà i legami tra i diversi gruppi marginalizzati che normalmente lavorano separatamente. Questo potrebbe essere l’inizio del vero interculturalismo. Per condividere esperienze, allargare le reti di contatto, elaborare nuovi modi di realizzazione e per parlare delle forme per rendere diversa l’intera attività.
Questo significa ancora più contatti e nuove relazioni con la società, che includano anche relazioni strette e rispettose con le ONG. È vero che l’indipendenza degli organi del servizio pubblico è importantissima ma, al tempo stesso, abbiamo bisogno di guardare oltre le vecchie strutture e i vecchi comportamenti e di creare mutui scambi d’informazioni. Qualcuno potrebbe chiamarla correttezza politica; d’altronde, dobbiamo muoverci con la sviluppo della società, dobbiamo evolvere di continuo e – tuttavia – praticare la parità, mostrare rispetto ed essere inclusivi.

Themen und Schauplätze
Unsere Ausstellung verteilt sich analog der Gebäudearchitektur auf 3 Geschosse und 3 inhaltlich wie dramaturgisch eigenständige Plattformen. In Anlehnung an Dantes Divina Commedia könnte man sie die 3 Reiche der Fabrik nennen – eine Reise in Etappen vom Inferno durch das Fegefeuer ins Paradies. Jede Ebene beleuchtet einen ganz bestimmten Themenkreis aus dem Gesamtkontext. Auf jeder Etappe begegnen wir klar begrenzten sinnlichen Wahrnehmungen aus dem Gesamtzusammenhang. Schritt für Schritt erleben wir ganz gezielte Information und situative Emotion, bis sich am Ende der Reise in der Fantasie ein hautnahes Gesamtbild eingeprägt hat.
Drei unterschiedliche
Geschosse
Der Rundgang beginnt im Piano seminterrato und führt durch das 1. bis ins 2. Stockwerk. Jede Ebene erhält eine eigene Funktion und Atmosphäre.
Im Seminterrato erlebt man den Arbeitsprozess der Fabrik.
Im 1. Geschoss begegnet man den Kunstwerken der Fabrik.
Im 2. Geschoss erkennt man die Bedeutung der Fabrik.
Eine durchgehende Wahrnehmung
Der „Ofenschacht“ ist von allen Stockwerken offen einsehbar und zugänglich. Die ferne, Collage aus musikalisch interpretierten Fabrikgeräuschen, der Eisengeruch und das Flackern des Ofens sind deshalb auf allen Ebenen der Ausstellung spürbar.

Temi e luoghi
In analogia all’architettura dell’edificio, la nostra esposizione si suddivide su 3 piani e 3 piattaforme, indipendenti dal punto di vista contenutistico e drammaturgico. Alludendo alla Divina Commedia di Dante, si potrebbero chiamare i tre regni della fabbrica – un viaggio a tappe, dall’inferno attraverso il purgatorio fino al paradiso. Ogni livello illustra un ambito tematico ben definito, ripreso dal concetto globale. In ogni tappa incontriamo percezioni sensoriali chiaramente circoscritte, tratte dal quadro complessivo. Passo dopo passo riceviamo informazioni mirate e proviamo emozioni situazionali finché, alla fine del viaggio, si è impressa nella fantasia una visione d’insieme viva e reale.
Tre piani diversi
Il percorso inizia al piano seminterrato e porta attraverso il primo piano fino al secondo piano. Ogni livello possiede una funzione e un’atmosfera proprie.
Nel seminterrato si fa esperienza dei processi di lavoro della fabbrica.
Al 1˚ piano si incontrano le opere d’arte della fabbrica.
Al 2˚ piano si comprende il significato della fabbrica.
Una percezione ininterrotta
Il pozzo, determinato dalla costruzione del forno di un tempo, è visibile, aperto e accessibile da tutti i piani. Il lontano collage di rumori della fabbrica, interpretati musicalmente, l’odore del ferro e la luce tremula del forno sono perciò avvertibili in tutti i piani dell’esposizione.
