About me

I obtained a joint BA degree in German and French (2:i) from Reading University in 1983 and an MA in Translation Studies from Surrey University in 1987. Although I spent one year working for a translation agency in Winchester after I obtained my MA, it was not until 1994 that I started to work as a freelance translator. I translate French, German, Dutch and Russian texts into English. My subject areas are diverse, although I will not translate electronics or engineering texts. My BA had a definite literary bias, and I enjoy the creativity of translating literary texts. As an almost fully qualified accountant, I also feel particularly comfortable with commercial texts. In addition, my 3 'A' Levels in Chemistry, Human Biology and Mathematics give me a scientific background, and my preferred texts are of a pharmaceutical nature. My daily output is 2,500 words.

I have now been working as a freelance translator for about 13 years. I translate about 2,500 words a day and have been fully employed for many years. I have experience of translating a wide range of documents which have ranged in length from a few words to about 80,000 words. The documents have been in all 4 languages. I have worked for customers both in this country and abroad. My charges are: £50 per 1,000 words of French, German and Dutch and £55 per 1,000 words of Russian.

	X Why did the menu change? The updates to the menu were made to make the site easy and more intuitive for visitors. Obviously, like any change, this may take a few days to get used to. The dropdown menus have been divided into two-dimensional panels with similar items grouped together under headings. This eliminates scrolling for those with smaller screens, and also improves readability. More information on the changes... Where is the "My ProZ.com" menu? Mouseover your name at the top of the screen. Here you will find information about your account, your email settings, and more. The "My ProZ.com" menu was moved up here to simplify the main navigation, and to keep all of this type of information together. I cannot find something If you are having trouble finding something with the new menu, please submit a support request.
