Warning: The real cost of poor translation.(thanks to John Bunch)
What price might your brand, your company, and your image pay for poor cheap translation ?
• Customers read your text and are confused. Result: they don't buy your product
• Customers read your text and laugh. Result: your brand is put in a bad light.
• Customers are confused and call your hotline. Result: you end up paying more right now (hotline resources used), but also long-term (an unsatisfied customer).
• Your brand looks amateurish.
• Customers use your product and damage results. Result: lawsuits against you, and in the worst case scenario, criminal prosecutions.
• Customers read your text, and it is ok, but it looks as if it was written by a non-native speaker. Result: your company and your brand looks provincial, and not international.
These are the potential prices that companies pay for poor cheap translation. The sad thing is that many of these are invisible to you and your company.
In short: you see the money you save by hiring cheap translators. What you don't see is the customer who didn't buy your product because he was confused by, or put off by your text.
