Two ideas have dominated discussion in recent studies of the social and
political impacts of globalization by those who think that globalization has
had real eff ects and is not simply a synonym for the neo-liberal policies insti-
tuted by many national governments beginning in the 1980s.

that everywhere in the world is becoming alike economically and culturally as
a consequence of globalization. h is is a scaling up from the national to a global
scale of the old idea of “modernization.” From this perspective, common global
norms about conduct, consumption standards, and cultural practices are spread-
ing everywhere ( John Meyer at Stanford University [e.g. Meyer 1996] and his
students are perhaps representative of this thrust). h is global modernization is
often seen as brought about by causes implicit in a second idea, although propo-
nents of the second idea may well not endorse the fi rst or vice versa. h is is that
current globalization is about the shrinking of the world because of revolution-
ary changes in communication and transportation technologies. In the long-term
this process of “time-space compression” will produce greater economic similari-

Nell’ambito delle recenti ricerche sull’impatto politico e sociale della globalizzazione, sono fondamentalmente due i filoni di pensiero che hanno influenzato il dibattito tra quanti ritengono che la globalizzazione abbia avuto effetti reali, e non sia stata semplicemente un sinonimo delle politiche neo-liberiste varate dalla più parte dei governi a partire dagli anni Ottanta. Per un secondo filone, invece, questa modernizzazione globale viene spesso vista come il risultato di cause implicite, anche se i sostenitori di questo secondo approccio possono non approvare il primo e viceversa. Einer Studie der XXX Stiftung [YY 2004] zufolge erhalten junge und mittlere Altersgruppen ihre Gesundheitsinformationen vorwiegend über Zeitungen und Zeitschriften. Allerdings verlagert sich gerade bei den 18- bis 39-Jährigen die Informationsbeschaffung immer mehr auf das Internet. Erstaunlich daran ist, dass in dieser Altersgruppe das Internet sogar vor dem Erfahrungswissen im Freundes- und Bekanntenkreis rangiert. Gesucht wird dabei in erster Linie nach Informationen über Behandlungsmaßnahmen und Erkrankungen.
Bevor ein Patient zum Arzt geht, konsultiert er also mit steigender Tendenz das Internet. NS kam laut einer Befragung im Januar 2003 zu dem Ergebnis, dass 25% der Befragten im Zusammenhang mit einem Arztbesuch das Internet als Informationsquelle nutzten und 53% der Befragten sich vorstellen konnten, dies in Verbindung mit ihrem nächsten Arztbesuch zu tun. Der Patient zeigt sich demnach zunehmend offener für das Internet, um seinen Arzt zu wählen.
Die GfK und die Stiftung Gesundheit befragten 2005 in einer gemeinsam durchgeführten Studie knapp 8000 niedergelassene Ärzte sämtlicher Fachrichtungen zum Thema Gesundheit – mit einem interessanten Ergebnis: Laut dieser Studie verfügten 63% der Ärzte bereits über einen Internetauftritt. Lediglich 10% lehnten einen eigenen Internetauftritt strikt ab. 44% der Ärzte waren überzeugt, dass die Patienten von einer modernen Praxis auch eine Homepage erwarten, während das Internet als Instrument zur künftigen Patientengewinnung eher verhalten bewertet wurde (29%), obwohl bereits 61% der Ärzte in einem Onlineverzeichnis registriert waren. Aus Sicht der Ärzte ist die Praxishomepage also zu einem wichtigen Imagefaktor geworden, um bereits gewonnenen Patienten einen Mehrwert zu bieten.
Als wichtig für die Patienten schätzen Ärzte die folgenden Informationen ein:
- Behandlungsschwerpunkte (92%)
- Erreichbarkeit der Praxis (78%)
- Erläuterungen zu eingesetzten Untersuchungs- bzw. Behandlungsverfahren (70%)

Il 44% era convinto che i pazienti di uno studio medico moderno si aspettassero anche una homepage, mentre internet come mezzo per acquisirne di nuovi veniva giudicato piuttosto debole dal 29%, anche se già il 61% di essi si era registrato in qualche elenco online. Dal punto di vista dei medici avere una homepage del proprio studio è diventato un significativo fattore d’ immagine, che rappresenta un valore aggiunto nei confronti dei propri pazienti.
Queste le informazioni che i medici ritengono importanti per i pazienti:
