TOLEDO
La ciudad de Toledo está ubicada en una elevación rocosa rodeada por el río Tajo y en pleno centro de España a unos 70 km de la capital, Madrid. Fue declarada Patrimonio de la Humanidad por la Unesco en 1986, cuenta con más de cien edificios monumentales que la dotan de una gran riqueza artística y patrimonial. De ahí que reciba al año más de dos millones de visitantes.
Conocida como la Ciudad de las Tres Culturas, -la musulmana, la hebrea y la cristiana-, Toledo es un ejemplo universal de convivencia y tolerancia de religiones y etnias durante siglos, cuna de civilizaciones –como decía Cervantes-. Es también la capital imperial de Carlos V, el origen de la ruta de Don Quijote, la villa de El Greco, por lo que se trata de una ciudad única en su historia, cultura, belleza y encanto.
Toledo ha experimentado en los últimos años un crecimiento de sus infraestructuras, una mejora en la red de comunicaciones, y es una de las ciudades españolas que celebra más congresos, convenciones y eventos. TOLEDO
Toledo sits on top of a rocky elevation, surrounded by the river Tagus, right in the heart of Spain, and about 70km away from the capital, Madrid. It was declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco in 1986, and boasts more than a hundred protected buildings which give the city its artistic and historical richness. Unsurprisingly then, it receives over two milion visitors every year.
Known as the City of Three Cultures, Muslim, Jewish and Christian, Toledo has been an international example of peaceful coexistence and religious and ethnic tolerance for centuries; Cervantes called it the “cradle of civilisations”. It was also the imperial capital of Charles V, the start of Don Quixote's travels, and home to El Greco's villa; it is, in short, a city that is unique in its combination of history, culture and enchanting beauty.
In recent years, Toledo has experienced a growth in its infrastructure and an improvement in its communications network, and it is now one of the most popular Spanish cities to host congresses, conventions and events. One of the keys to its success has been knowing how to respect and make best use of its historical and artistic heritage in its city planning when creating facilities, spaces and modern buildings. |
