I remember reading once that some fellows use language to conceal thought, but it's been my experience that a good many more use it instead of thought.
A businessman's conversation should be regulated by fewer and simpler rules than any other function of the human animal. They are:
Have something to say.
Say it.
Stop talking.
Beginning before you know what you want to say and keeping on after you have said it lands a merchant in a lawsuit or the poorhouse, and the first is a short cut to the second. I maintain a legal department here, and it costs a lot of money, but it's to keep me from going to law.
It's all right when you are calling on a girl or talking with friends after dinner to run a conversation like a Sunday-school excursion, with stops to pick flowers; but in the office your sentences should be the shortest distance possible between periods. Cut out the introduction and the peroration, and stop before you get to secondly. You've got to preach short sermons to catch sinners; and deacons won't believe they need long ones themselves. Give fools the first and women the last word. The meat's always in the middle of the sandwich. Of course, a light butter on either side of it doesn't do any harm if it's intended for a man who likes butter.
Remember, too, that it's easier to look wise than to talk wisdom. Say less than the other fellow and listen more than you talk; for when a man's listening he isn't telling on himself and he's flattering the fellow who is. Give most men a good listener and most women enough note-paper and they'll tell all they know. Money talks -- but not unless its owner has a loose tongue, and then its remarks are always offensive. Recuerdo haber leído alguna vez que algunas personas utilizan el habla para esconder sus pensamientos, pero ha sido mi experiencia que muchos otros la utilizan en vez de pensar.

También, recuerda que es más fácil verse sabio que decir sabidurías. "THE ONE THING”

In the Gospel story of Mary and Martha, Jesus says to Martha, “You are anxious and troubled about many things, but only one thing is needful.” (Luke 10:41)
As I was writing A New Earth, people would sometimes ask me, “What is the new book about?” And invariably, my answer would be, “I only ever write or speak about one thing.” What is that one thing? Spiritual awakening. Can a person be awakened spiritually by a book? Yes, if three conditions are met:
Firstly, there must be a readiness on the part of the reader, an openness, a receptivity to spiritual truth, which is to say, a readiness to awaken. For the first time in history of humanity, large numbers of people have reached that point of readiness, which explains why millions have responded so deeply to The Power of Now.
Secondly, the text must have transformative power. This means the words must have come out of the awakened consciousness rather than the accumulated knowledge of a person’s mind. Only then will a text be charged with that power, a power that goes far beyond the informational value of the words. That is why such a book can be read again and again and lose none of its aliveness.
Thirdly, the terminology used needs to be as neutral as possible so that it transcends the confines of any one culture, religion, or spiritual tradition. Only then will it be accessible to a broad range of readers world-wide, regardless of cultural background.
All these conditions were met in The Power of Now, which is why the book has had such an impact on the collective consciousness.
Why write another book?
Since the publication of The Power of Now, I have given hundreds of talks and teaching sessions all over the world, and in the course of those seven years, the teaching evolved. While the essence remained the same (The Truth is timeless.), new perspectives arose, new signposts, alternative approaches to the Truth, as well as an added sense of urgency. A New Earth reflects this evolution and this urgency.
If The Power of Now worked for you and changed your life – as it did for countless people all over the world – there is no need for you to read A New Earth (although you may enjoy reading it and may find some of it helpful in recognizing the ego and thus sustaining the state of Presence).
My feeling is that A New Earth will make the teaching (the one thing) accessible to an even wider audience, including people who perhaps would not have dreamt of reading a “spiritual” book but have within them a hitherto unrecognized longing for spiritual awakening.
A New Earth will also be extremely helpful for those who read The Power of Now, found it interesting, but somehow missed the essence of it. It presents them with new perspectives on the same truth, new signposts, pointers towards Presence. Different pointers work for different people.
Millions are now ready to awaken because spiritual awakening is not an option anymore, but a necessity if humanity and the planet are to survive. Everything is speeding up – the madness, the collective egoic dysfunction, as well as the arising of the new consciousness, the awakening.
We are running out of time. From the perspective of the ego, that’s bad news and will give rise to fear. From a higher perspective, the running out of time is exactly what is needed for the new consciousness to come into this world

Conforme iba escribiendo Una Nueva Tierra, la gente a veces me preguntaba, ¿De qué trata el nuevo libro? E invariablemente yo respondía, Yo solamente escribiré acerca de solo una cosa, y ¿Qué es esa cosa? El despertar espiritual. ¿Puede que una persona se despierte espiritualmente por medio de un libro? Sí, pero sólo si se encuentran tres condiciones:
Primero, el lector debe estar dispuesto, abierto, y perceptible a la verdad espiritual, lo cual quiere decir que debe tener buena voluntad para el despertar. Por primera vez en la historia de la humanidad, grandes cantidades de personas han alcanzado el punto de la disponibilidad, lo cual explica por que millones han respondido tan profundamente a El Poder del Ahora.
Segundo, el texto debe de tener el poder de la transformación. Lo cual significa que las palabras deben de nacer de una consciencia despertada, en vez de una sabiduría acumulada dentro de la mente de una persona. Sólo así, el texto podrá estar cargado con ese poder, un poder que va más allá del valor informacional de las palabras. Es por esto, que un libro así se puede leer vez tras vez sin perder esta vitalidad.
Tercero, la terminología que se utilice debe de ser lo más neutral posible para que esta transcienda los límites de toda cultura, religión, o tradición espiritual. Sólo entonces, esta será accesible a un amplio numero de lectores mundialmente, sin importar sus antecedentes culturales.
Todas estas condiciones se encontraron en El Poder del Ahora, y por eso es que este libro ha tenido tanto impacto en la conciencia colectiva.
¿Por qué escribir otro libro?
Desde la publicación del Poder del Ahora, he dado cientos de pláticas y clases por todo el mundo, y en el curso de esos siete años la enseñanza ha ido evolucionando. Mientras que la esencia sigue siendo la misma (La Verdad es eterna), ha nacido una nueva perspectiva, nuevos señalamientos, acercamientos alternativos a la verdad, así como un nuevo sentimiento de urgencia. Una Nueva Tierra refleja esta evolución y esta urgencia.
Si El Poder del Ahora ha funcionado para usted y ha cambiado su vida – como lo ha hecho para un sinnúmero de personas por todo el mundo – no hay necesidad de leer Una Nueva Tierra (aunque es posible que disfrute leerlo y pueda que lo encuentre útil para reconocer el ego y así se pueda mantener en el estado de Presencia).
Mi sentir es que Una Nueva Tierra hará la enseñanza (la única cosa) accesible para una audiencia aún más amplia, incluyendo a personas que quizás jamás hayan soñado leer un libro “espiritual” pero que llevan dentro de ellos hasta la fecha un anhelo por un despertar espiritual.
Una Nueva Tierra también será extremadamente útil para aquellos que hayan leído El Poder del Ahora y que lo hayan encontrado interesante, pero que por algún motivo hayan desaprovechado su esencia. Este le presenta nuevas perspectivas de esa misma verdad, nuevos señalamientos, y guías hacia la Presencia. Diferentes guías funcionan para diferentes personas.
Millones ahora están listos para despertar, por que el despertar espiritual ya no es una opción, pero una necesidad, si es que la humanidad y el planeta deben de sobrevivir. Todo se está acelerando – la locura, la disfunción colectiva del ego, así como el levantamiento de una nueva consciencia, el despertar.
Se nos está acabando el tiempo. Esto es mala noticia desde la perspectiva del ego, y traerá miedo. Sin embargo, desde una perspectiva más alta, el que se nos acabe el tiempo es exactamente lo que se necesita para que llegue una nueva consciencia a este mundo.

The mystical Black Dog, who died recently, was loved and admired by many, including me. Like other folks in "his" neighborhood, I irrationally believed him to be eternal. At the end, he was revealed to be a real dog, not a phantom.
If his life had to end, his admirers would have preferred for him to have evaporated into thin air, but it did not diminish his place in our hearts that he ultimately died a corporal death.
I have had many personal encounters with Black Dog over more than 20 years of living in Windsor Farms. He would appear in our front yard frequently when we lived on Sulgrave Road. I, like so many others, fed him in hopes that he might stick around.
When I was out walking our dog, he would often tag along behind us for a while. I enjoyed having him near, although he would never permit me to come close enough to touch him. My dog and I would just walk along with him trotting behind us. I would look back repeatedly and then, at some point, he would not be there anymore, having silently headed off to an assignation with some other lucky neighbor.
In my dozen years in the field of animal welfare, I have spent more time than most thinking about how to convince people to love our companion animals and treat them with compassion and respect. While most people care sincerely for dogs and cats as pets, there are many who have little patience or concern for stray or feral animals. In fact, the reactions of many people to the presence of feral cats can be brutal and callous.
So, why did Black Dog, a stray and perhaps feral dog, have so many ardent fans and protectors and almost no detractors? What was it about Black Dog that inspired such affection and respect that people would go to great lengths to provide him with shelter and food and to protect him from capture?
To answer that question, you have to consider why most of us love our own pets as we do. Our affection seems to spring from our admiration of their wonderful qualities of unconditional love, patience, and loyalty, and their selfless affinity for us and our company. In other words, somewhere deep down, we recognize that they may not be as intelligent as we are, but they have some noble qualities in larger amounts than do most of us.
Black Dog had his own set of remarkable attributes that inspired our admiration precisely because we knew that those attributes were largely deficient in us. He was utterly self-reliant. While he would accept gifts of food and warm garages to sleep in, he never begged for anything. He lived life on his own terms with success and dignity.
Yet, he was never aggressive or hurtful to any other living thing. In fact, he seemed to enjoy being near us so long as it was never too close. We were awed by his individualism and non-conformity, since we all learn at an early age that we must live by society's rules if we are to get along. Life could never beat Black Dog into submission like it does most of us.
Back when Richmond Animal Control used to try regularly to catch Black Dog and he eluded them in ways that made them look pretty foolish and him very clever, I urged them to leave him alone. That may seem like an odd attitude for someone like me whose life is devoted to ensuring that companion animals are loved and cared for in responsible homes.
But Black Dog was unique and my real goal is the best situation for each animal. It would never be in Black Dog's nature to be a pet in a home, but it was inaccurate to say that he had no guardians. He had a whole neighborhood that he had made his family and they loved and cared for him. He presented no risk to people or other animals and was likely to live out a good life in the unusual family he had created. I do not believe that other animals should run the streets but he was remarkable and that should have been -- and was -- honored.
Black Dog's life provides a valuable lesson for us about stray and feral dogs and cats. Because of his charisma and supernatural abilities, Black Dog became widely known and a whole neighborhood came to treasure him.
While other stray and feral animals may have less personal magnetism and fewer wiles, they have every bit as much heart and individual character as did Black Dog. Like him, they strive to care for themselves with dignity and without threatening others. They merit our protection and support and their lives deserve to be treasured.
Perhaps we were given the remarkable gift of Black Dog's presence in order to teach us to practice compassion and respect in our treatment of other stray and feral companion animals. That would be a great legacy for him to leave. | Translation - Spanish

En otras palabras, en algún lugar muy dentro, debemos reconocer que aunque no son tan inteligentes como nosotros ellos tienen algunas cualidades nobles en cantidades más grandes que la mayoría de nosotros.
El Perro Negro tenía sus propios atributos de renombre que inspiraban nuestra admiración precisamente porque nosotros sabíamos que esos atributos eran deficientes dentro de nosotros. El era extremadamente auto suficiente. Mientras que el aceptaba regalos de comida y cocheras cálidas para dormir, el nunca rogó por nada. Pero el Perro Negro era único y mi meta verdadera era la mejor situación para cada animal. Nunca hubiera estado en la naturaleza del Perro Negro ser una mascota de casa, pero era equivocado decir que no tenía guardianes. El tenía a toda una colonia a la cual había hecho su familia y ellos le querían y lo cuidaban. El no presentaba ningún riesgo a personas u otros animales y era más probable que viviera una buena vida con esa familia que el había creado. Yo no creo que otros animales deban recorrer las calles, pero el era asombroso y eso debería haber sido, y era, honorado.
La vida del Perro Negro nos da una invaluable lección acerca de los perros y gatos callejeros. Por su carisma y habilidades supernaturales, el Perro Negro se hizo ampliamente conocido y toda una colonia llegó a atesorarlo.
Mientras que otros animales callejeros pueden tener menos magnetismo y menos astucia, ellos también tienen tanto corazón e individualismo como lo tenía el Perro Negro. Como el, ellos se esfuerzan en cuidarse a si mismos con dignidad y sin amenazar a nadie. Ellos ameritan nuestra protección y apoyo y sus vidas merecen ser atesoradas.
Tal vez nos dieron el regalo asombroso de la presencia del Perro Negro para enseñarnos a practicar la compasión y el respeto en nuestro trato con los animales callejeros de compañía. Eso sería su gran legado.
