Estrella Damm skippers Guillermo Altadill and Jonathan McKee have suffered the frustration of getting stuck in light winds when the weather they had hoped for never materialised. After holding onto third place overall for the first week of the Barcelona Word Race, the Spanish-American duo have been forced down into sixth overall after a frustrating wait for the trade winds, just north of the Carnary Islands.
The team have watched three boats pass them over the last few days and are now hoping that the latest weather models will see them surge forward in the coming 24 hours. Currently sailing along at around 10 knots, things are certainly looking up for the team. Can they get back in the top three, or have they seen the last of the leaders? We wait to find out...
The latest forecast from the Barcelona World Race:
The low-pressure conditions prevailing on the Canary Islands and Madeira will stay in place even a few hours. However, the flow of SW will be better when installed by midday around 15kt. The wind will then switch to the WSW in reinforcing temporarily tomorrow around 25/30kt with heavy rain. The sea will grow accordingly around 3 to 4m.
For skippers who have already passed the Canary Islands, a new transition zone is in prospect as it will be necessary to cross a ridge of south of the Canary Islands, which stretches to the North of the Cape Verde Islands to finally find the trade winds.

Els patrons de l'Estrella Damm, Guillermo Altadill i Jonathan McKee, han viscut la frustració de quedar-se encallats amb vents febles en veure que el vent que tan desitjaven no es materialitzava. Després de mantenir el tercer lloc de la classificació general durant la primera setmana de la Barcelona World Race, el duo hispanoamericà ha vist com anava a parar al sisè lloc de la general després d'una frustrant espera dels vents alisis, al nord de les Illes Canàries.
L'equip ha vist com tres altres vaixells l'avançaven durant els darrers dies i ara esperen que els darrers models meteorològics els ajudin a ressorgir al llarg de les properes 24 hores. Sembla que les coses milloraran per a l'equip, que a hores d'ara navega a uns 10 nusos. Podran tornar a estar entre els tres primers o han vist passar el lideratge? Esperarem per descobrir-ho...
La darrera previsió meteorològica de la Barcelona World Race:
La situació de baixes pressions que hi ha damunt les illes Canàries i Madeira seguirà sense variacions durant unes quantes hores. No obstant, cap al migdia, els vents del SW, amb velocitats d’uns 15 nusos, ja seran més estables. Després el vent rolarà cap a WSW, pujant demà provisionalment fins a 25/30 nusos, amb fortes pluges. En conseqüència, la mar serà més grossa amb onades de 3 a 4 metres.
Als patrons que ja han passat les illes Canàries, els espera una altra zona de transició, ja que caldrà travessar una falca anticiclònica al sud de les Canàries, que s’estén fins al nord de les illes de Cap Verd, per trobar finalment els alisis.
Propera etapa: travessa dels doldrums fins arribar a la porta de Fernando de Noronha.
