I then studied at UCL where I received my MA in Translation studies, which enabled me to go deeper into certain theoretical and practical difficulties of translation. So I have been translating now for over 5 years under excellent guidance and tuition. I am currently back home in Cornwall after undertaking a traineeship at the translation department of the European Commission in Brussels, where I have learnt how to use a multitude of CAT tools and databases and translated various documents, including financial, legal and technical texts. I have become familiar with a variety of technical texts and the specific vocabulary involved, working with some of the top translators in their respective fields. I have been receiving in-depth feedback on the revisions of translations and have learnt how to proof-read and edit a translation. I have been proof-reading various documents in English from Swedish in addition to working for the European Union. My experiences in proof-reading and translation have enabled me to develop my critical analysis in addition to enhancing my powers of concentration. Throughout my education and work experience prioritising has been a key point and I find the pressure of a dead line driven environment very motivational. Languages are a real passion of mine and I am always looking to learn more and am thus teaching myself Swedish and Finnish. I have studied German and Spanish before and would love the opportunity to bring them up to the fluency of my French and Italian. |
