I worked in finance for about 12 years and made a foray into the world of translation upon recommendation from an established translator who was confident it was the ideal profession for me.

I am glad I followed that advice because shifting into translation was the best career choice I ever made.

My first project was a restaurant menu translation from Italian into Greek. I recall spending the entire weekend in front of the computer researching "never-heard-of" terms (the end client was a specialised fish restaurant chain!) and trying to keep calm as my deadline was Monday at 09.00am. Luckily enough the client was pleased and is still one of my best clients. They are also wonderful people. After that first job, more work came along and I realised that being a translator can be quite fulfilling and challenging.

The most important translations I have produced (besides that first "unforgettable" restaurant menu) were legal documents for the courts of Rome and Genoa from Italian into Greek and endless ship seizure paperwork. Other projects include technical manuals, personal correspondence, travel articles and a gardening/plant nursery website (and a lot of pro bono work).

Most recent important work was a marketing campaign for which I analysed the customers' responses in Greek. The project had huge volumes, it involved various countries and had very strict deadlines. I am proud to say that the feedback from the client was priceless. The work I did for the Greek market stood out among the rest for its accuracy and thoroughness.
