Background

I am an American translator based in Lyon, France, where I have been living since 1998. I have accumulated a total of 15 years of translation experience, of which 12 were as an in-house translator and project manager at a local agency. I am now a freelance translator and teach EFL on the side at a vo-tech school.


Areas of specialization

Although my career has allowed me to do translations in many fields, my main specializations are pharmaceuticals, medical devices and diagnostics, nuclear power and HVAC-R. Below is a selection of the types of documents I typically translate:

Commitment

Like many of my fellow translators, I take translation seriously. I only accept jobs that are within my abilities. I guarantee on-time delivery of accurate and idiomatic translations. All ambiguities or errors in source documents sent to me for translation are flagged in a file of comments. I am also a member of the ATA and the SFT and abide by their respective codes of the ethical conduct.

In addition to the hands-on aspects of my career, I make it a point to regularly acquire new knowledge and skills by taking training courses, participating in events and interacting with my fellow translators. In addition, I am a member of the committee in charge of organizing the Medical English Seminar, which is held every two years in Lyon. The next edition will be held in the spring of 2014.
