Van Gogh painted Starry Night while in an Asylum at Saint-Remy in 1889.
During Van Gogh's younger years (1876-1880) he wanted to dedicate his life to evangelization of those in poverty. Many believe that this religious endeavor may be reflected in the eleven stars of the painting. In Genesis 37:9 the following statement is made:
"And he dreamed yet another dream, and told it his brethren, and said, Behold, I have dreamed a dream more; and, behold, the sun and the moon and the eleven stars made obeisance to me."
Whether or not this religious inspiration is true, it is known that the piece is not the only Starry Sky painting that Van Gogh ever created.
Starry Night over the Rhone contains one final aspect that is not featured in the Starry Night piece; humans. In the bottom right corner of the painting there is a couple walking along the river. This gives the painting a down to earth feel with a natural quality. Although this painting is not nearly as popular as the seconded Starry Night piece, it still creates a pleasurable and life like environment to look at. It is also resides as a very sought after piece when it is placed with Starry Night and the following painting to create a montage of Van Gogh's Starry Night works.
Cafe Terrace At Night was also painted in Arles in 1888. The similarities between this piece the previous two are vaguely similar. This piece offers a new type of perspective on the star filled sky.
• The Stars are barely consumed in their own light.
• The bright yellow wall draws in ones attention rather than assisting to move one's eyes around the painting.
• There is a sense of balance attributed to the dark cityscape silhouette to the right of the painting (Contrasting the bright yellow wall).

Ван Гог написал «Звездную ночь» в 1889 году, находясь в психиатрической лечебнице, что в Сен-Реми.
В бытность молодых лет (1876-1880) он хотел посвятить свою жизнь обращению в христианство бедняков. Многие полагают, что такое религиозное стремление находит отражение в одиннадцати звездах, изображенных на полотне. Бытие 37:9 содержит следующее изречение:
«И видел он еще другой сон и рассказал его братьям своим, говоря: вот, я видел еще сон: вот, солнце и луна и одиннадцать звезд поклоняются мне».
Вне зависимости от правдивости этого религиозного озарения, доподлинно известно, что картина «Звездная ночь» не единственная, когда-либо написанная Винсентом Ван Гогом.
Картина «Звездная ночь над Роной» содержит один главный фактор, которого нет в «Звездной ночи», — это люди. В нижнем правом углу полотна изображена парочка, прогуливающаяся вдоль реки. Именно эта деталь придает картине чувство приземлённости с присущей естественной натуралистичностью. Даже несмотря на то, что эта картина и близко по своей известности не может сравниться со второй «Звездной ночью», она все равно отображает правдоподобную жизненную обстановку, которой приятно любоваться. Она также пользуется большой популярностью, когда расположена рядом с другой «Звездной ночью» и следующей картиной, создавая калейдоскоп полотен Ван Гога из серии «Звездных ночей».

The Chinese leader, continuing a U.S. visit that on Wednesday included a state dinner, called for closer cultural exchanges and political contacts to build confidence and dispel mistrust.
Hu stuck mainly to the theme of greater cooperation and offered little in the way of specific proposals. […]
Measured by growth domestic product, China likely surpassed Japan last year as the world’s second-largest economy. China has also become the largest foreign lender to the United States — a growing source of concern to many Americans.
U.S. political and business leaders have complained about obstacles to investing in China and its perceived reluctance to crack down on intellectual property theft, such as the pirating of Silicon Valley software or Hollywood videos.
Some lawmakers have even blamed China partly for the slower growth at home and called for economic penalties. Sen. Charles Schumer, a New York Democrat, assailed China again over its practice of keeping its currency undervalued.
Schumer and others believe currency controls give Chinese manufacturers a competitive advantage to sell their products at lower prices than American goods. In his talks this week with the Chinese leader, President Obama himself called for a “fair, level playing field.”
Hu said his country was committed to opening its markets over the long run and he sought to point out the benefits to Americans of Chinese development.
Yet critics such as Schumer argue that unfair trade practice underpin much of that success and cost Americans jobs. Congressional leaders met with Hu privately on Thursday to press some of their concerns.
U.S. business leaders, meanwhile, downplayed those disputes and stressed the importance of the world’s two strongest economies finding common ground.
