Outlook
Inflation will most likely remain a key source of concern throughout Asia in 2011. In China, we believe food inflation will gradually fade out, but will be replaced by more structural inflation hitting manufactured goods and coming mainly from commodities prices and strong increases in Chinese salaries. This will lead to further monetary tightening which, fortunately, should not hit companies too hard as Chinese companies have low gearing. As young people now have more and more incentives to stay in their home provinces that are fast growing, Chinese factories in the coastal provinces (and particularly in the Guangdong Province) are facing a shortage of labour. Combined with rising costs, factories that operate in low value-added industries are now moving out of China to relocate elsewhere in Asia. In other words, China being the “factory of the world” will soon be a concept of the past as the country is moving to the next stage of its development where it produces in priority for itself and no longer for others. Hence the decreasing trade surplus that is further pushed down by a steady revaluation of the Yuan.

En China, estimamos que la inflación en los alimentos se rebajará gradualmente, pero será sustituida por una mayor inflación estructural que afecte a los productos manufacturados y que provenga principalmente del precio de las materias primas y de las fuertes subidas salariales. Estos acontecimientos provocarán un mayor ajuste monetario que, por suerte, no afectará demasiado a las empresas, puesto que las entidades chinas registran un apalancamiento bajo. Al contar los jóvenes con cada vez más incentivos para permanecer en sus provincias, las cuales crecen a mayor velocidad, las fábricas chinas radicadas en las provincias del litoral (especialmente en la provincia de Cantón) están experimentando una escasez en la mano de obra. En otras palabras, el concepto de China como “fábrica del mundo” en breve formará parte del pasado, ya que el país está pasando a la siguiente fase de su desarrollo donde la prioridad es la producción interna en detrimento de la producción para otros estados. De esta forma, se produce el superávit comercial decreciente sobre el que la continua revalorización del yuan ha ejercido su presión a la baja.
