Design for disability involves the design of products and environments that help those described as disabled to overcome their physical problem or limitations. It has become the subject of much attention since the 1960s. Prior to this, products and environments for the disabled were considered primarily in medical terms. This "medicalization", especially with regards to those products(e.g., wheelchairs) that relate directly to the appearance of people, did (and still does) little to alleviate the social stigma that many disabled people have experienced.
During the 60s, American and European designers began to break away from the medical approach and took steps to bring the large section of the population deemed disabled into the realm of everyday life by making new products and environments accessible to them. One of the first manifestations of this change was the design ot an international symbol for disability, developed in the late 60s.

In turn, they are outsourcing non-core functions, even across the country or around the world. To keep up, workers are seeking greater and greater expertise.

The revolution started at the couture and continues as a darker mood, moving colour and distressing of fabrics descends on XXX.
Fortress collars, inside out detailing, oversized eyelets and outspoken attitude remain. Colours are strong and confrontational - blacks to ecrus, puttys and deep burnt browns to blood reds, oxbloods and deepest crimsons. The collection evolves with colour as mood and gives a new contemporary look for day, for cocktail and finally to after dark eveningwear. Each section is highlighted by a shift in style, change of palate but consistent throughout every look has a jacket or coat. Outerwear is for everywhere and essential for XXX Fall. Shoulders are strong, blunted and square, trousers are skin tight in lurex or leather, and skirts are short, leathers and graphic for day and fluid for after dark.
Materials are waxed, metallic, degrade and worked. Embroidery and degrades diffuse down the form. Moving colour from dark to light explode in boucle to chiffon, fades from a metallic glint lame to sheer silk, wool becomes organza and the decay is given a contemporary feel. Fabrics shift from heavy to light, furs, sheepskins, leathers and lamb it is lightweight luxury. Minks, goat, Mongolian lamb clash with rubber printed on jersey, waxed denims and rubberised linens. Treated fabric, and gothic prints on finished outfits treat clothes with designer disrespect. Bouclé which evaporates to chiffon gives a rock feel to the couture led clothes. Waxed organza, printed taffeta, things are not what they first appear.
The Gaucho is reworked this time only using exotic skins; croco, python and metallics. The heel is razor sharp, metallic, and spiky and thin, shielded by a fencer's mesh or fishnet that bands the heels to the legs. Blacked out sunglasses, with diamante shots obliterating the lens, cover the girls' faces. Accessories are sexy.
