Source text - English My visit to the Coin Museum in Beijing in March offered many insights for my thinking about The Beacon. I felt connected to the Cowry shells there and realized that the forms in my sculpture can be interpreted as shells, relating to one of the earliest forms of Chinese currency. The silver and gold ingot shapes, whose beauty comes from the simplification of representational forms, also fascinated me. In my sculpture, I too strive for simplified shapes that can interpret and transform meaning, such as Heaven and Earth, and Yin & Yang .The Beacon speaks of light absorbed and light reflected, growth and expansion and a great tree springing out from the ground sending up vertical canopies.
