Michael Jackson passed away as his vision was taking shape for his next album, working diligently on songs he expressly wanted to share with his fans.
These songs could simply have become part of the rich legacy of unreleased work left behind by one of the world’s great artists. But as it soon became clear to both the Michael Jackson Estate and Sony Music, there was an obligation not only to Michael’s fans but to Michael himself not to let this amazing music gather dust in a vault.
It was decided the album that was taking shape needed to be properly completed and released in a thoughtful, dignified way that would honor Michael’s legacy.
While Michael was not there to complete the tracks as only he could, he had left behind a unique roadmap mapping out his creative vision in the form of notes and detailed conversations with the people he was working with as well as those he was planning to work with.
This enabled everyone involved in “Michael” to follow his voice and the guiding hand they felt was present in helping them complete the album. For those who generously lent their creative talents to “Michael,” this was a labor of love honoring someone who had inspired all of them. | Translation - Italian
La scomparsa di Michael Jackson è avvenuta proprio mentre l’artista dava vita al progetto di un nuovo album e lavorava con assiduità a delle canzoni che voleva espressamente condividere con i fan.
Questi brani avrebbero semplicemente potuto aggiungersi a un ricco lascito di opere inedite di uno dei più grandi artisti al mondo. Tuttavia, come fu presto chiaro alla Michael Jackson Estate e a Sony Music, vi era l’obbligo non soltanto nei confronti dei fan di Michael, ma verso Michael stesso, di impedire che questa straordinaria musica rimanesse a prendere polvere. Si decise che l’album in fase di definizione doveva essere completato per bene, per poi venire pubblicato con una cura e un decoro che avrebbero reso omaggio alla sua memoria.
Sebbene Michael non abbia potuto ultimare i brani come soltanto lui avrebbe saputo fare, ha lasciato una straordinaria serie di indicazioni sul suo progetto creativo, sotto forma di appunti e conversazioni dettagliate con le persone con cui stava lavorando o aveva intenzione di collaborare.
Così, tutti coloro che hanno partecipato a Michael hanno potuto seguire la sua voce e lasciarsi guidare dalla sua mano per terminare l’album. Quanti hanno generosamente prestato il proprio talento l’hanno fatto per passione, in onore di colui che considerano una vera e propria fonte di ispirazione.
