Source text - Portuguese Um dos grandes equívocos da segunda metade do século XX foi, sem dúvida alguma, a alcatifa. As alcatifas são, sinteticamente, expansões lanudas de grande monotonia, e vulgaridade. Privam os pés de contactar directamente com a dura realidade do soalho, habituando o Homem a uma falsa impressão de onde pisa, criando nele o culto fútil e amaricado do "fofinho". Fomentam toda a espécie de mitos irrisórios ("a cinza faz bem ás alcatifas", "uma alcatifa é uma forma de poupar energia", etc.) e conduzem a certas prácticas que nos hão-de envergonhar diante das gerações vindouras. (Você, caro leitor, a olhar compenetrado para o chão e a dizer sentenciosamente "Esta alcatifa está a precisar de um shampooing"...). "Shampooing"! Como todos os gerúndios anglo-saxónicos, cobre-se de ridículo na boca de um português. Outro gerúndio semelhantemente inane é aquele do "brushing" que se pronuncia em salões de "coiffure" como se se tratasse de um termo altamente técnico, aprendido durante um seminário restrito com Dusty Fleming: "Vamos avançar com um bocado de brushing, está bem?" (tradução "Vamos avançar com um bocado de escovando, está bem?"). E a analogia capilar não acaba aqui.	Translation - English One of the greatest mistakes of the second half of the twentieth century has been, without doubt, the fitted carpet. Synthetically, fitted carpets are woollen expanses of great monotony and vulgarity. They deprive the feet of direct contact with the hard reality of the floor, accustoming Man to a false impression of the ground he walks on, cultivating within him the futile and unmanly worship of “fluffiness”. They foster all kinds of derisive myths- “ash is good for carpets”, “a fitted carpet is a way of saving energy”- and they lead to certain practices which we will shame us in front of future generations. (You, dear reader, looking at the floor, deeply convinced, and saying sententiously “This carpet needs shampooing”…) “Shampooing!” Like every Anglo-Saxon gerund, it sounds ridiculous coming from a Portuguese mouth. Another similarly inane gerund is that of “brushing”, uttered in "coiffure” salons as if it were a highly technical term learnt during a limited-availability seminar with the hairdresser Dusty Fleming: “Vamos avançar com um bocado de brushing, está bem?” (“Let’s move on to a little brushing, all right?”). And the hair analogy does not end there.

Source text - Spanish En relación con los objetivos se destacó la noviolencia como un modo de ejercer la resistencia, de luchar legítimamente a favor del cambio social, político, económico a través de todos los instrumentos legales que garanticen la dignidad del ser humano, su derecho a la seguridad física y mental y el derecho a la vida. Se centraron en la identificación de un mecanismo para unificar las potencialidades de la resistencia noviolenta y la acción noviolenta en el ámbito local y regional. Recogieron las sugerencias presentadas respecto a la integración de diversos esfuerzos existentes: crear una red regional para la noviolencia, un centro de recursos e información sobre la noviolencia, realizar reuniones periódicas de ámbito regional, etc…	Translation - English In relation to the objectives, non-violence stood out as a way of exercising resistance, a way to fight legitimately in favour of social, political and economic change by using all of the legal instruments which can guarantee the dignity of human beings, their rights to physical and mental security, and their right to life. The focus was on identifying a mechanism to unite the powers for non-violent resistance and non-violent action in the local and regional area. They collected together the suggestions put forward regarding the integration of the existing diverse efforts: to create a regional network for non-violence, to establish a resource and information centre on non-violence, and to carry out periodic meetings about the regional area, etc...
