SPRING RAINS appeared as the month ended, heightening the tropical hu¬midity that enabled me to sleep at night with only a thin covering. Still wak¬ing up alone in the small hours before dawn, as I had been doing all month, I decided to leave Los Angeles far a day. The empty cans I left scattered about my backyard had filled with tepid rainwater. Mosquito larvae were already beginning to hatch. I bought twenty tins of tuna fish from the Thrifty's Drugstore because they were fifty cents each. It was the easiest way to eat. I had pared my living habits down. Even the Times was stacked hap¬hazardly on the steps: I did not bother to unfold the soggy papers or read the news.
In advance, I checked my car's highway map of Orange County, the re¬gion south between Los Angeles and San Diego. Fifty miles one way meant a daily commute for some people; for me, it was a rare journey, a hundred miles round-trip. I had never driven that many miles out of Los Angeles and recalled only the cross streets-Brookhaven and Katella-in Little Saigon. No address or phone number. Though Lac Hai and I had been to the tempIe twice, at the time I did not pay attention to the route. Today I would go there alone.
On the way home from work the night before, I had stopped by the Thai market in Hollywood and bought two large boxes of dried Chinese noodles for the Sifu of the tempIe. The market had escaped the burning of the riots here two weeks ago, but the block still held the acrid smell of other charred buildings, intensified by the May rains. The interaction of ferritin mRNA is regulated by iron via the interaction of a cytoplasmic binding
protein (IRE-BP) with a specific stem-loop structure in the 5' untranslated region (UTR), referred to
as the iron-responsive element (IRE). A high affinity RNA-protein complex between the IRE and
the IRE-BP functions as a repressor of translation in vivo. Translational repression appears to
depend upon the position of the IRE in the 5' UTR of the mRNA. IREs located in the 5' untranslated
region 67 nucleotides or more downstream of the 5' terminus of the mRNA fail to mediate irondependent
translational regulation and give rise to constitutively derepressed transcripts. A model is
proposed in which translational regulation of protein biosynthesis involves a position-dependent

Modalità di svolgimento
Nel concepire il Master si è partiti dalla premessa che i giovani neolaureati hanno una preparazione culturale molto
elevata ma, a causa della struttura del sistema universitario italiano, sono carenti sul piano gestionale/operativo e
pertanto necessitano di una formazione di tipo applicativo che consenta loro di essere inseriti con successo nel mondo
del lavoro. Per perseguire il fine sopra esposto il Master è stato strutturato in due fasi didattiche distinte ma
complementari:
Fase di, "aula convenzionale": due mesi di lezioni teoriche, volte a fornire la metodologia di gestione di un
processo decisionale d’impresa e a definire il corretto approccio per affrontare le problematiche della realtà
imprenditoriale. Sono state previste 20 giornate di aula, nel corso delle quali si alternano docenti esperti nelle
diverse aree del marketing management. Le lezioni teoriche si svolgono dal lunedì al venerdì, dalle ore 09.30
alle ore 17.30.
Fase di "aula nell'impresa", cinque mesi di training on the job all’interno di una delle imprese partner, durante
i quali si applica, ad un living business case, la metodologia acquisita nella prima fase, attraverso la
realizzazione di un progetto di marketing concordato con il management.
L'attività quotidiana vede gli studenti interfacciarsi e collaborare con i manager dell’ impresa e così beneficiare del loro
patrimonio di conoscenze e di esperienze che, di volta in volta, è messo a disposizione nella soluzione delle diverse
problematiche operative. Tale periodo è svolto quale full-immersion aziendale, in un rapporto fra studenti e imprese nel
quale la X oltre a concorrere alla individuazione dei progetti ne verificherà la congruenza con
gli interessi delle imprese partner. Alla fine del periodo formativo presso l’impresa, ciascun partecipante avrà prodotto

Course structure
The premise on which the master is based on is that young graduates have a very high cultural background but, due to
the Italian university system, they have weak notions of managing/operating fields, so they need to apply themselves in
order to be successfully put into action. In order to fulfil the aim, the master's format has been set on two distinct but
complementary phases:
The first, "conventional class" (approximate duration: 2 months), aims at providing the right orientation and a
suitable approach to the decision-making problematics concerning marketing and enterprise communication
participants. Participants will learn a working method, whose goal is to qualify them to take part into the
enterprise in which they will be engaged. For this reason, 21 days of "conventional class" of 8 hours each have
been conceived, during which expert docents will teach the different areas of marketing and enterprise
communication.
The second phase, "class in the enterprise" (duration: 5 months), aims at conveying the specific competences,
requisite to the development of the several activities of marketing and enterprise communication. Since the
best way to acquire competences is the personal involvement in real matters, X placed
itself into the enterprise. We created a particularly innovative project for the Italian marketplace, but the U.S.
have adopted it for a long time: we've set permanent classes by the several operative centers of the partner
enterprises; once every five months groups of students will alternate in classes, equipped with useful operative
and educational systems, and they'll have the opportunity to work on interesting marketing projects, agreed
together with partner enterprises/institutions.
The everyday activities will involve students in order to interface and collaborate with enterprises' managers, getting a
benefit from their whole of knowledges and experiences, available anytime to solve operative problematics. At the end
of the training period in the enterprise, each participant will produce an attestation of the activity. |
