Il titolo di un romanzo della scrittrice sino-americana Amy Tan ,The Hundred Secret Senses (1995) è un buon punto d'avvio per l'argomento esposto in questo paper . Esso è rivolto in particolare agli studiosi che negli ultimi due decenni del XX secolo in molte università del mondo si sono impegnati a dare all'estetica un nuovo slancio teorico attraverso gli studi transculturali e la ricerca comparativa in un orizzonte di pensiero non più storicisticamente segmentato e insulare ma planetario. Non c'è oggi specialista nel nostro campo che possa minimizzare l'importanza della transculturalità e dell'interdisciplinarietà nel trattamento dei problemi estetici. Inoltre, una volta riconosciuta nella sua angustia l'identificazione moderna dell'estetica con una mera teoria dell'arte, è possibile riappropriarsi il pieno controllo di molte cruciali questioni che toccano la struttura e le dinamiche della percezione alla luce di una psicologia del profondo il cui contesto originario - come C.G.Jung seppe perfettamente - furono le dottrine pan-indiane del risveglio e le scuole del taoismo e del buddhismo esoterico fiorite in Cina e Giappone nel corso del primo millennio.

The Hundred Secret Senses (1995), title of a novel by Chinese-American writer Amy Tan, is a good starting point for the subject matter of this paper. It is intended in particular for those scholars who during the last twenty years of the 20th Century attempted to give new theoretical impulse to aesthetics by means of trans-cultural studies and comparative research, no longer historically segmenting and insulating thought, but rather bringing it up to planetary level. No specialist in our field today may disregard the importance of cross-culture and cross-discipline when dealing with aesthetic issues. Moreover, once the modern identification of aesthetics with a mere theory of art is recognised for its narrowness, we can once again take charge of many crucial matters touching on the structure and dynamics of perception in the light of a psychology of the Unconsciousdepth psychology that, as C. G. Jung was perfectly aware, finds its original context in the pan-Indian doctrines of awakening and in the esoteric Taoism and Buddhism schools that blossomed in China and in Japan during the first millennium.
