An American graduate of a master's program in translation at the Sorbonne (ESIT).
My expertise: venture capital (main client for 6 years), pharma, accounting, cost accounting, manufacturing, business, legal (in-house at a Big Five), advertising (2 years freelancing for Text Appeal), websites (Lillet, Ateliers Bernard Pictet, a VC site), novels (co-translated The Tibetan by Jean-Leo Gros), film (feature films, corporate films, CD-ROMs, documentaries).
Simultaneous, consecutive and escort interpreter for: Anne Sinclair, GE Capital Systems, Dannon, the Intl Fencing Federation, the movie Les Visiteurs (encoding for the blind), UNESCO, VC, pharmaceutical, and marketing (focus groups).
In 1998, I worked for the American Embassy where I was granted top secret security clearance. Presently, I translate many confidential documents, and I have received repeat business over the years for such sensitive information.
My method of working is based on the idea that 90% of all clients want their translation ASAP. One of the options I offer clients to bring down their costs and to finish the project faster is to collaborate with me on the terminology. Sometimes it can take as long to find a handful of words as it does to translate the entire document, and ironically, the technical terms are often what the client knows best! I by no means apply this to all cases, but many companies and individuals have found it mutually beneficial. And since many places have in-house terminology, it provides them with a tailor-made translation to suit their company's jargon.
