| Translation - English In order to use the optical interface, the tributary and aggregate models have to be supplied with cables with E2000-APC connectors. The APC suffix represents a significant loss of return signal (RL> 85dB). This RL value avoids reflections that could interfere with the normal propagation of the fibre optic signal.
The E2000 has mechanical protection that provides robustness, and optical protection that guarantees that the security requirements, from the use of any type of laser, are maintained.
Alternatively, when the unit’s installed hardware version depends on the use of SFP (Short-Form-Pluggable) modules, the supplied optical cable must be type LC. | Portuguese to English: IT Technical - Sample #2 Detailed field: Computers: Hardware | Source text - Portuguese • Bursty:

| Translation - English The workshop has been absolutely fundamental in the establishment of the Amazonian biodiversity research program, PPBIO. Due to the research undertaken, the Science & Technology Ministry adopted all of the suggestions that were made by various different field specialists participating in the workshop. The ministry of science and technology research program was initially carried out by two institutions: The Emilio Goeldi Museum of Pará, and The National Institute of Amazonian Research, INPA.
PPBIO aims at establishing an Amazonian biodiversity research network, the main goals being: First, to structure and motivate inventory research; secondly, the institutionalization of sample collections, which means the building of adequate infra-structure and standards. It is also very important to institutionally verify these collections, thus having standardized management and institutionalized inventories to make further cross-referencing of data possible.
Human resources training is the third main goal, and is also fundamental. Because there is such a small amount of human resources, one of the basic components of the program is training and preparation of staff to make their own inventories and deal with the sample collections.
| Translation - English According to BRUNER (1960), knowledge is formed in the mind of the student and not transmitted by the teacher. Information is passed to the student in various forms, such as lectures, texts, pictures and drawings, among various other mediums, but this information isn’t transformed into knowledge immediately. The process of transforming information into knowledge gives itself to the process known as mental mapping where structures that will help us to mount new knowledge models are formulated. This array of student mind models evolves in a spiral form, or perhaps, a harmony exists in the process of transforming information into knowledge that evolves in a cyclic and continuous form.
Each learning cycle is completed when the student is capable of explaining what he has learned, and at this moment, elaborating cognitive models in his mind. However, according to COLLINS (1987) and SCHUMACHER (1992) the learning process passes through two phases that must be observed by those responsible at the learning process. The information collection period and the synthesis period, or the formation of mental models, is when the student completes the cycle and is capable of explaining what he has already learned, being the completion of the mental models.
The graphical representation aims at representing this phenomenon. An individual study phase exists, when new information and content is absorbed in a collective phase, when the student is made to explain what he has absorbed, completing the cycle and consolidating the models that have been learnt in his mind. Various pedagogical techniques arise in these two cycles, shown in the proposed hybrid model. | Portuguese to English: Amazon Species Research Analysis Detailed field: Environment & Ecology | Source text - Portuguese Fêmeas e machos adultos de P. squamosissimus (Pisces, Teleostei, Sciaenidae) foram coletados mensalmente no Rio Pará, que banha a ilha do Capim (PA) (S 010 34. 971`; W 0480 52.932`), durante o período de fevereiro de 2004 a fevereiro de 2005, totalizando 234 espécimes. I'm a full-time, seven-day-a-week, freelance translator and a specialist in the world of computer and technical terminology, IT, software, hardware, electronics and general/civil/industrial/chemical engineering. I also work in construction, metallurgy, mining, forestry, environment & ecology, advertising, tourism, business management, finance and banking, etc (more info below). I have a wide range of translation skills and experience and speak English (of course), fluent Portuguese and a modicum of Spanish.
Contact me via Email, Telephone, Skype or MSN.
Skills in more detail: -
Information Technology, that's IT and related topics - technical translations.
I'm a Certified Software Engineer (BTEC HND level) and am also an experienced web designer, therefore happy to deal with code, related acronyms and complex programming areas. I edit software, html, websites and feel very comfortable in the technical re-Localization area.
As well as being a very competent and natural IT Technical translator, I deal extensively in most other areas of general engineering - civil and industrial engineering; that's construction work, metallurgy (steel and welding for example), Mining, minerals etc.
I also translate Business, Finance and Management terms and contracts with tricky and official negotiations. Companies offering Invitations to Tender in diverse technical and engineering fields may find my skills appropriate.
Plus: Amazonian biodiversity issues. I do translations for the Federal and State Universities from time to time, touching on many ecological and biodiversity issues. There are plenty of opportunities to get involved with many interesting and little known technical terms concerning our planet and environment here in Belém do Pará. With the sheer size and range of species and possibilities in this region, including university research, deforestation and related issues, displacement of tribes and indigenous people, new hydroelectric projects etc…mining projects, social and political concerns, there is a huge wealth of information and experience to be gleaned and passed on to clients.
I also translate in the marketing and advertising areas, as well as in all sorts of sciences and social sciences areas, as well as tourism as this has a huge impact on the environment and where we live. Come to Brazil, you'll like it. At the time of writing I've been living in Brazil for over five years now and am here to stay!

More information.
I moved to Brazil on a permanent basis in March 2002.
It took me a while to make that 'final' decision to permanently up and go; that change in career direction on a permanent basis was tricky to say the least in terms of localization, financial and logistical impact, but I now have the advantage of direct access to the Portuguese language and culture on a minute by minute basis. It really helps me keep up to date and truly be good at what I have chosen to do. I also have the further advantage of really ENJOYING what I do now.
Historically, I'm a qualified, verified software engineer (BTEC HND) and worked in the UK computer industry up until 2001. I also hold Electronics qualifications and Microsoft accreditations.
As of the end of June 2009, I have decided to finally give up all responsibilities as a paid English teacher on Saturday mornings. The work has had the advantage of being a social outlet beyond translation work, but I have decided to concentrate full-time as a professional translator.
My wife Sarah (from the Brazilian state of Pará) is an English teacher and a part-time translator. My children - 'Beatriz', 'Samuel David' and 'Steven Leonardo' (Coelho Jenkins) - speak and are continuously learning to speak English.

My preferred CAT tools are Wordfast and Trados (including TagEditor). I use both and like them equally.

JUST TO ROUND OFF.
My rates are favourable and I'm willing to negotiate. Contact me via telephone, email, Skype or MSN if you'd like to discuss a project.
I set up my own website Interpretacao.com to further establish my long-term intentions as a serious and dedicated translator. Note, that I still work sometimes with web design and implementation because I like the technical programming aspects, but it's not my chosen direction or interest - well, I just don't have any time for it any more.
I OFFER QUALITY AND FOCUSED TRANSLATION FROM PORTUGUESE TO ENGLISH. Believe Me.
The "right mentality and perspective" from Belém do Pará.
I also offer Spanish to English - My third language.

THANKS for taking the time to read my "mini-profile".
Very best regards and good luck with your future endeavours.
Richard.
