I have degree-level qualifications in radio communications, radio and television engineering, all gained while working with the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) in London.
From 1978 to 2000 I worked with the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) - best known to the public as 'Eurovision' - in Brussels and Geneva. I was in turn Technical Translator; Head of Technical Publications (serving as Editor-in-Chief of the much respected 'EBU Technical Review' and responsible for all the Union's technical standards, specifications and related formal engineering documentation, all of which was published in English and French editions); and finally Head of Media Data in the EBU's Strategic Information Service, which brought me into daily contact with the entire range of broadcast-related professions: radio and TV programme-making, legal, administrative, HR, international training, etc. as well as maintaining involvement in the establishment of new digital broadcast and multimedia technologies.
In 2000 I set up MediaMatrix, first in Belgium and since 2003 in Chile, where my aim is to assist in the integration of digital broadcast media in Latin America. One important aspect of this is the provision of translations of key strategy documents relating to the transfer from analogue to digital technology and the related economic and social aspects.
Other areas of personal, rather than professional, interest for which I also offer translation include genealogy and family history, information technology, cartography and geodesy.
