¿Le duele algo? Nadie duda de la comprobada eficacia de los medicamentos analgésicos y/o anti-inflamatorios como el ibuprofeno, el paracetamol o la aspirina, prescritos ampliamente en todo el mundo para tratar los dolores de cabeza, muelas o articulaciones, entre otras muchas molestias dolorosas.
Sin embargo, existen otras posibilidades más cercanas a la Naturaleza y al poder de la mente que a la química de laboratorio, las cuales pueden utilizarse como alternativa o complemento de los productos de farmacia, y que pueden ser igualmente eficaces y seguras, como demuestran algunos estudios recientes.
Una investigación de la Universidad de Newcastle, en Inglaterra, señala que la Hyptis crenata, una planta conocida como menta brasileña y que se usa frecuentemente en la herboristería americana para tratar algunos dolores de forma segura, tiene propiedades analgésicas como las de algunos fármacos sintéticos.
Durante miles de años los curanderos brasileños han usado la menta para aliviar el dolor y ahora su eficacia se ha comprobado científicamente, según la investigadora Graciela Rocha, que ha dirigido la investigación británica.
El método utilizado más comúnmente para preparar esta planta medicinal consiste en hacer una infusión de té, hirviendo las hojas secas de menta en agua durante 30 minutos y dejando que se enfríe el líquido antes de beberlo.
El sabor de la menta brasileña, se parece más al de la salvia, que al que la gente identifica como menta en muchos países.
El equipo de Newcastle ha encontrado, en ensayos con roedores que prevén realizar dentro de poco en seres humanos, que esta variedad de menta es tan efectiva como un analgésico similar a la aspirina sintética llamado indometacina.
Según Rocha, en el mundo se usan más de 50.000 plantas con fines medicinales, y más de la mitad de los medicamentos que se recetan actualmente se basan en moléculas presentes de forma natural en los vegetales.
Para ayudar a aliviar el dolor físico también puede ser útil pensar en algo placentero o realizar actividades que nos hagan sentir mejor como la fotografía o la música, según concluye otro reciente estudio de la Universidad de Columbia en Nueva York (EE.UU), según el cual las emociones o el estado de ánimo pueden alterar la forma en que reaccionamos al dolor.

هل تشعر بألم في منطقة ما؟. لا يمكن لأحد أن يشكك في فاعلية العقاقير المسكنة والمضادة للالتهاب مثل الباراستامول، والأسبرين، والايبوبروفين، التي ينتشر تناولها في أنحاء العالم، لعلاج الصداع وآلام الأسنان والمفاصل، وآلام الجسم الأخرى.
غير أن الطبيعة لها أسلوب آخر في علاج الألم يختلف عن المواد الكيمائية المصنعة بالمعامل، ويمكن استخدامه كعلاج بديل أو مكمل للعقاقير الطبية التقليدية، مع الحفاظ على نفس الفاعلية والآثار الآمنة، وفقا لما أكدته دراسات حديثة.
ففي جامعة نيوكاسل بإنجلترا أثبت فريق بحثي أن (هيبتيس كريناتا) وهو نبات يعرف باسم "النعناع البرازيلي" يتمتع بقدرات لتسكين الآلام مشابهة للعقاقير الاصطناعية، مع العلم بأن هذا النبات معروف في الطرق العلاجية بالأعشاب في القارة الأمريكية لقدرته على تخفيف الآلام بشكل آمن.
وتؤكد الباحثة جراثيلا روتشا التي ترأست البحث البريطاني أن المداوين وخبراء الأعشاب البرازيليين ظلوا على مدار آلاف الأعوام يستخدمون النعناع لتخفيف الألم، وقد أثبت العلم فاعليته مؤخرا.
والطريقة الأكثر شيوعا لتناول هذا النبات العلاجي هي إعداد كوب من الشاي وغلي أوراق النعناع الجافة في المياه لمدة 30 دقيقة ثم تركها حتى تبرد وتناولها، ويشبه مذاق النعناع البرازيلي، نبات السالفيا، المعروف بالنعناع في غالبية دول العالم.
وتوصل فريق جامعة نيوكاسل بعد تجارب على القوارض ينتظر تطبيقها قريبا على متطوعين، أن هذا النوع من النبات له قدرة على تخفيف الألم تماثل عقار (إندوميتاسين) المنتمي إلى عائلة الأسبرين.
وتذكر روتشا أن هناك ما يزيد عن 50 ألف نوع من النباتات تستخدم لأغراض علاجية في أنحاء العالم، وأكثر من نصف العقاقير الطبية المستخدمة حاليا تعتمد على جزيئات مستخرجة من نباتات طبيعية.
وتؤكد دراسة أخرى أجراها فريق بجامعة كولومبيا في نيويورك أن التفكير في أمور سارة ومثيرة للبهجة أو ممارسة الهوايات الممتعة مثل التصوير أو الاستماع للموسيقى، يساهم في تخفيف الآلام الجسدية، لأن الحالة المعنوية قد تغير رد فعل الجسم للألم. | English to Arabic: Mortgage problems
