While employed by Education Department: Translation (Afrikaans < > English) and editing (Afrikaans and English) of official education-related documents, diplomas, testimonials, including official ministerial reports presented in parliament.
2003 -
After a career of four decades at all levels of education, including translation and editing of official education-related documents during the last ten years, I have recently embarked on a second and equally rewarding career in translation.
Have worked as freelance translator in Afrikaans < > English; Dutch > English; Dutch > Afrikaans; also edited / proof read English documents for publication.
Recently translated texts include i. a. letters, architectural articles, yacht building website, press releases, user and quick start manuals (IT, veterinary and household appliances), speech text for IT software, economics articles for general consumption, testimonials, certificates, shorter texts like minutes and reports, translation of texts in diagrams e.g. algorythms & flow charts done directly in PDF format.
Fields of expertise for translation: Pedagogy, Education, Sociology, Art, Music, Ecology, Economics, and all texts of a general nature not requiring analytical subject-specific knowledge. Particularly enjoy working with texts such as user manuals for gadgets that require technological insight.
