Ennadre dislocates sites of memory, identity, death, and disaster through the representation of indistinct emblems of place. Often meaning does not register for the viewer until the historical location of trauma is identified, in a similar fashion to his contemporary Santu Mofokeng whose indeterminate landscapes, entitled Nightfall from the Spirit (1992–99), signal a region like Auschwitz or Vietnam abstracted from their historical sites. Ennadre asserts,
“In approaching my work in Auschwitz, I think of Adorno on art after the Holocaust. You cannot use Auschwitz as a theme in your work. You cannot talk about Auschwitz, replace, replicate, or represent it. The memory is there, rooted in the place, there is no artist who can approach this. Yet, it is so crucial to look and to remember what happened there. There is never an indication in my work of where the photographs were taken … it is something universal.”
Ennadre’s commemoration of Auschwitz takes the form of a suitcase or cooking pot and his memorial to Sarajevo focuses on a deceased pigeon. These indices of subjectivity aim at distancing the cultural and geographical specificity of the portrait. Ennadre insistently and repetitively obscures charged cultural signs in an effort to decorporealize ethnicity, history, and territory.

Bedeutung entzieht sich oftmals einer bewussten Zuordnung, bis man den historischen Schauplatz des Traumas erkennt; ähnlich wie bei seinem Zeitgenossen Santu Mofokeng, dessen unbestimmte Landschaften mit dem Titel Nightfall from the Spirit (1992–99), abstrahiert von deren historischen Schauplätzen, eine Region wie Auschwitz oder Vietnam signalisieren. The cinema is the most perfectly developed medium in which disbelief and its suspension could merge not only due to its highly evolved fictions but due to the fact that it is, itself, a form in which the animate and the inanimate conflate. But the passing of time itself has affected the cinema giving it a further ghostly dimension. As Chris Petit has pointed out, the cinema now resembles a mausoleum rather than a palace of dreams as the figures imprinted on its rolls of celluloid are now more of the dead than the living and, when animated on the screen, are literally brought back to life. But, as historians of early and pre-cinema excavate its close ties both to a longstanding culture of illusions and also to the morbid mentalities of its own early contemporaries, the cinema seems to have been, from its beginnings, associated with death, the uncanny and the experience of uncertainty. | Translation - German
Das Kino ist das perfektest entwickelte Medium, in dem der Zweifel und dessen Aufhebung eins werden konnten; nicht nur wegen seiner hoch entwickelten Fiktionen/fiktionalen Welten, sondern aufgrund der Tatsache, dass es selbst eine Kunstform ist, in der das Lebendige und das Leblose verschmelzen. Doch der Lauf der Zeit selbst hat auf das Kino gewirkt und ihm eine weitere gespenstische Dimension verliehen. Wie Chris Petit betont hat, ähnelt das Kino heute eher einem Mausoleum als einem Palast der Träume, da die auf seine Zelluloidrollen gebannten Gestalten heute überwiegend dem Reich der Toten angehören und auf der Leinwand buchstäblich wieder zum Leben erweckt werden. Weischer exerziert in seinen Bildern das Problem der Repräsentation und ihrer möglichen Formen durch. Die eingerahmten Flächen im Bild zeigen aber nur weitere fragmentierte Bilder, abstrakte Muster oder entleerte Räumlichkeit: Blinde Flecken, auf die wir unsere eigenen Bilder projizieren sollen.
In Weischers Räumen gibt es keinen eindeutigen Zusammenhang zwischen den Objekten und ihrer Anordnung. So steht in Automat, 2004 ein verfremdeter Spielautomat als einsamer Protagonist in einer rudimentären Architektur. Es ist ein zusammengewürfeltes Designobjekt ohne wirkliche Funktion mit Möbelteilen aus den 60er- und 70erJahren oder späteren Datums. In diesen surrealen Bildstrukturen können, ähnlich wie in der psychoanalytischen Traumdeutung, den einzelnen Dingen nur noch durch freie Assoziation ausgehend von eigenen, persönlichen Erinnerungen eine Bedeutung zugesprochen werden. So wie die Traumstruktur als Ganzes nicht logisch ist, kann auch in Weischers Bildern nur von einzelnen Bildelementen ausgegangen werden, die so noch eine Geschichte erzählen können.

Weischer’s paintings deal systematically with the issue of representation and its possible forms. But the framed surfaces in the image only show other fragmented images, abstract patterns or emptied spatiality: blind spots on which we have to project our own images.
In Weischer’s spaces there is no straightforward interrelation between the objects and their arrangement. In Automat (2004), for example, an abstracted slot machine is the solitary protagonist amidst rudimentary architecture. It is a motley design object made of furniture elements from the 1960s and 1970s, or later, and without any real function. In these surreal image structures, as in the psychoanalytic interpretation of dreams, we can only attribute meaning to objects by means of free association based on our own individual memories. As the dream structure as a whole isn’t logical, you can only set out from individual image elements if you are looking for a story.

Yusef et Shpresa Raba virent leur demande d'asile déboutée. Ils furent expulsés en décembre, revinrent en mars et furent expulsés à nouveau en août.
Un grand-père qui s’apprêtait à aller chercher l’un de ses petits-enfants à l'école fut arrêté par un grand nombre de policiers accompagnés de chiens. Ein Großvater, der gerade eins seiner Enkelkinder von der Schule abholen wollte, wurde von mehreren Polizisten mit Hunden festgenommen. Obwohl er keinerlei Widerstand leistete, legte man ihm Handschellen an und verfrachtete ihn brutal in einen der drei Wagen, die die Kreuzung blockierten. Eltern und Kinder wurden mit Gewalt auseinandergetrieben und die Schuldirektorin wurde in Polizeigewahrsam genommen.

Als er in die Boeing verfrachtet wurde, musste er ein Schlafmittel schlucken, seine Knöchel und Handgelenke waren gefesselt, sein Mund war mit Klebeband verklebt und man hatte ihm einen Sack über den Kopf gestülpt. Einmal auf seinem Platz fesselte man Osamuyia Aikpitanhi fest an den Sitz. Nach drei Flugstunden wurde er, erstickt und in seinen Exkrementen badend, für tot erklärt. Das Flugzeug kehrte um. Als die Passagiere die Maschine verließen, war er noch immer gefesselt und am Sitz festgeschnallt.
