November 4 will be the 13th anniversary of the assassination of Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin, a key figure in Israel's recent history and for the past, present and future of the Middle East Conflict. Rabin’s life and personality have brought together many of the ingredients that make up the complex map of the region. Rabin was, above all, a dogged defender of the Jewish homeland. The first way he did this was through his 27-year military career, during which he was involved in the 1956 and 1967 wars and achieved the position of Chief of Staff.
Then came Rabin the politician. Benefiting from the great trust of Golda Meir, he started out as Israeli Ambassador to Washington and was then Prime Minister on two occasions. When the time came to accept secret talks in Oslo with the PLO he did so, breaking away from the past 27 years of fighting and shaking hands with Yasser Arafat, his long-standing enemy.
This gesture won him the Nobel Peace Prize and the Prince of Asturias Award for Concord. At that ceremony, in both their names, Rabin explained that both he and Arafat were trying to change the reality in the Middle East, working, on occasion, “against human nature that seeks revenge”. Because they both knew that just as they had a great many friends, they also had enemies. “We are trying to move the hands of time forward and above all, not look backwards. Because behind us we have left one hundred blood-soaked years. I do believe that we can live in a different way”.
Based on this belief, Casa Sefarad has decided to organize a free concert at the Alcázar Theatre in Madrid on November 4, given by David Broza and Niño Josele as a tribute to Rabin and the hope for peace. “Our determination to continue looking for peace gets stronger when we hear the applause of our people, encouraging us to carry on, both in our homes and here, in Spain”, said Rabin in Oviedo. Casa Sefarad hopes that the applause at the concert
will encourage the achievement of a lasting peace.

| Translation - English Storytelling by Rosa Zaragoza: ‘La mujer sin manos’ (The woman with no hands)
The folklore of a wandering community such as that of the Jewish people often survives on the power of its oral tradition. Proverbs, songs and ballads are passed on from country
to country and from generation to generation. ‘La mujer sin manos’ reaches us through this channel. The story is about life of a woman who never gives up and makes the most of her mistakes and pain in order to grow instead of sinking.
Rosa Zaragoza adapts and interprets ‘La mujer sin manos’ interspersing it with traditional Sephardic songs. A good climax to a season that has offered a tour through Jewish heritage in its most traditional and contemporary forms.
Rosa Zaragoza is a significant reference point in the recovery and popularization of Sephardic music in Spain, a task which has led her to perform all over the world. In reality, her efforts span the three cultures on the Iberian Peninsula: Jewish, Muslim and Christian, as well as spiritual songs from these three religions. Closely linked to Mediterranean roots and culture, Rosa Zaragoza released an album entitled ‘Terra de Jueus’ in 2007, which includes Judeo-Catalan songs discovered in Jerusalem.
