On the one hand, firmly holding Dianchi Lake management as the key and core in its policy, Kunming will make great efforts in improving the seriously polluted water quality of Dianchi Lake, so as to restore the brilliance of the plateau pearl - Dianchi Lake and fully reflect the merits of Kunming as a scenic city. On the other hand, the city will vigorously facilitate reshuffling and optimization of productivity distribution and industrial structure across Dianchi Lake basin, while speeding up the Lake¡¯s management through the Kunming's urban development, leading urban development and lake management to a benign cycle of interaction. At present, Dianchi Lake protection projects, such as peripheral pollution interception, basin river management, comprehensive rural pollution sources management and peripheral ecological rehabilitation, are being carried out aggressively; As the primary drinking water supply for Kunming in the future, the water diversion and supply project at Zhangjiu River, which has a designed total reservoir storage of 484 million cubic meters, can begin to serve the city next year; the legislation process to protect urban drinking water supply areas has been formally initiated. Steady implementation of these important measures, which focus on the sustainable utilization of urban water resources, create favorable conditions for realizing the balance between water supply and demand in modern and new Kunming and solutions to Dianchi Lake ecological water.
