Le portage
Le portage concerne à la fois les différentes méthodes pour porter son enfant (dans les bras, corps à corps, ou avec un dispositif tel qu’un harnais ou un tissu…) mais aussi les manipulations permettant de positionner l’enfant de façon confortable tout en respectant les différentes parties de son corps et de ses articulations.
Les variations culturelles en ce qui concerne le toucher et les contacts peau à peau, corps à corps, sont relatées dans les études d'ethnopsychologie ; dans la majorité des pays du monde, le petit enfant jouit, sous des formes diverses, d'une grande proximité avec sa mère durant les premiers mois, les premières années de sa vie. A la fréquence beaucoup plus grande du portage, des contacts physiques et des jeux corps à corps de l'enfant avec sa mère, ou son père, ou avec des relais maternels, on constate une avancée dans le développement psychomoteur, durant les deux premières années de vie, chez les bébés africains, suivis par les bébés d'Asie et d'Amérique.
