Source text - English Claude Turmes, draftsman of the opinion of the Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety. - (DE) Mr President, without transparency, there can be no European democracy. Brussels already has a reputation for allowing the major corporations to call the shots and pull the strings. That is dangerous for the European project, and it is an issue which is of great concern to me on a personal level and to the Greens as a whole. As the European Parliament, we therefore have a responsibility to show our hand to voters in the run-up to the next European elections. We have a good report in front of us, but there are dark forces at work and they want to suppress two of its core elements. Firstly, they want to prevent financial transparency. Without financial transparency, we can never be sure who is really behind the campaigns. I am astonished to find that it is actually the Socialist Group which is opposed to financial transparency and is thus undermining one of these core elements. As for the second core element which is being undermined, there are people in Parliament who assume that lawyers should not be regarded as lobbyists, even if they are not defending people in court, but instead are trying to pull strings to influence legislation in Europe. Let me quote from the website of a law firm in Brussels. It says that because we are not currently regarded as lobbyists under this legislation, ‘Therefore lobbying by lawyers will be more and more effective and goals are more likely to be achieved with legal support. Alber & Geiger as a law firm exclusively specialised on lobbying and government relations will be at your side to assist you in reaching your goals within the EU.’ (DE) As you see, even the law firms themselves are admitting that they are lobbyists. Ladies and gentlemen, that is unacceptable. If we allow that to happen, we will undermine our own credibility. Brussel heeft op dit vlak al een slechte reputatie: grote ondernemingen zouden er de baas spelen en de touwtjes in handen hebben. Voor het Europees project is dit gevaarlijk. Bovendien is het een probleem dat mij persoonlijk en de Groenen in het algemeen grote zorgen baart. Naar onze kiezers toe hebben we in aanloop naar de volgende Europese verkiezingen als Europees Parlement immers de verantwoordelijkheid te laten zien hoe het moet. Voor ons ligt een goed verslag. Er zijn echter duistere krachten aan het werk die twee van de kernelementen willen ondermijnen. In de eerste plaats willen ze financiële transparantie vermijden. Zonder financiële transparantie kunnen wij er nooit zeker van zijn wie werkelijk achter campagnes schuilgaat. Ik ben verbaasd dat de Socialistische Fractie tegen financiële transparantie is gekant en dus een van deze kernelementen ondermijnt. Wat het tweede kernelement, dat wordt ondermijnd, betreft, zijn er mensen in het Parlement die vinden dat advocaten niet als lobbyisten mogen worden beschouwd, zelfs als ze geen mensen verdedigen in een rechtszaak, maar in plaats daarvan de touwtjes in handen proberen te krijgen om Europese wetgeving te beïnvloeden. Ik citeer even een website van een Brussels advocatenkantoor. Er staat dat omdat wij onder deze wetgeving momenteel niet als lobbyisten worden beschouwd, (EN) “Lobbyactiviteiten door advocaten efficiënter zullen zijn en dat doelstellingen met juridische ondersteuning een grotere slaagkans hebben. Alber & Geiger, een advocatenkantoor enkel gespecialiseerd in lobbywerk en overheidsrelaties, zal aan uw zijde staan om uw doelstellingen binnen de EU te verwezenlijken.” (DE) Zoals u ziet geven zelfs de advocatenkantoren toe dat ze lobbyisten zijn. Dames en heren, dat is onaanvaardbaar. Als wij dat toelaten, ondergraven wij onze eigen geloofwaardigheid.

Where is the "My ProZ.com" menu?

	X Why did the menu change? The updates to the menu were made to make the site easy and more intuitive for visitors. Obviously, like any change, this may take a few days to get used to. The dropdown menus have been divided into two-dimensional panels with similar items grouped together under headings. This eliminates scrolling for those with smaller screens, and also improves readability. More information on the changes... Where is the "My ProZ.com" menu? Mouseover your name at the top of the screen. Here you will find information about your account, your email settings, and more. The "My ProZ.com" menu was moved up here to simplify the main navigation, and to keep all of this type of information together. I cannot find something If you are having trouble finding something with the new menu, please submit a support request.
