I am a Lithuanian-born linguist and lawyer qualified in two jurisdictions, Lithuania and Scotland. I have a perfect command of Lithuanian (mother tongue), Russian and English and advanced knowledge of French.
I offer document translations between Lithuanian, English, Russian and French.
My key skills are legal translations from Lithuanian to English and from English to Lithuanian. My specialist fields are EU law and commercial contract law, with expertise in construction and engineering procurement. I also offer other related services such as summarising legal documents, proofreading, editing and auditing legal translations between Lithuanian and English.
In Lithuania, I worked for various EU technical assistance projects in preparation of Lithuania’s accession into the EU. As part of my involvement in these projects, I underwent a vigorous and thorough training in the EU legal framework. This knowledge was subsequently deepened by my legal studies both in Lithuania and Scotland.
In 2000, I moved to Scotland where I qualified as a Scottish solicitor in 2004. I have 6 years experience working in the private legal sector as a trainee solicitor and then a solicitor.
I gained experience in four areas of commercial law – construction and engineering (contentious work at the Court of Session in Edinburgh), projects (PPP and PFI contracts), information technology law (including copyright, data protection, freedom of information and patent law) and real estate/commercial conveyancing.
While working in one of the top Scottish firms, I developed my experience in commercial contract law covering all aspects of construction and engineering procurement, drafting and negotiating contracts and drafting precedent documents for the firm’s know-how bank. Translating into and from Lithuanian was an integral part of my job as a Scottish solicitor.
I enjoyed it so much that I became a legal translator and I am now able to utilise all my language skills!
