According to relevant sources, the baby is due in September. This was major breaking news for all of Japan's mass media with the major newspapers making the first announcement of the princess' expectancy in extra evening editions on February 7. Coverage of the royal pregnancy continued in newspaper morning editions the following day with frontpage banner headlines and lavish follow-up feature articles in the domestic affairs sections and society columns. And the editoral pages in all the nation's newspapers debated what significance the event holds. This phenomenal degree of attention drawn by Japan's press was not just due to the felicitous meaning of the coming imperial household's auspicious event, but also by the foreseeable possible influence Prince Akishino's third child could hold in shaping debate over the future of Japan's imperial succession system.
| Translation - English A fluid supply of capital is indispensable to an enterprise in creating new worth and maintaining growth. Particularly in recent years with the diversification of financial commodities and its advancements, corporate financial strategy has reached unprecedented importance, and company performance has become largely dependent on how proficient that strategy is. Moreover, financial soundness becomes a central point when the enterprise is being evaluated by the market. The advantage of corporate financial soundness is that it creates a virtuous cycle of increasing the potential for the smooth supply of funds, which in turn can effect further growth. An unhealthy financial base, on the other hand, would fuel a vicious spiral in the opposite direction. Thus, efficient financing for the enterprise has become an important issue.
From now on, because business enterprises will be closely scrutinized by the financial and capital markets, a proper understanding of the cost of capital will be indispensable in efficient financing (meaning, for example, a well-balanced portfolio of stocks, corporate bonds, and loans needed to secure the necessary minimum cash flow). It looks like that until now managers of Japanese enterprises didn’t fully recognize either the underdevelopment in market-stlye funding, nor did they realize the immense impact of nondisposable mutual holdings on corporate reserves. The cost of capital is defined as “the minimum profitability that a capial donor demands,” and it is necessary to clearly recognize that a company’s worth increases only after being able to acquire profits exceeding this. Otherwise, as in times like the present when we cannot expect to see any rise in rapid growth, it is difficult to draw up a clear strategy of growth for the entire economy.
