“Errands,” she told him, letting out a deep breath. “Princess Violet says I’m to go yell at the cooks for her, and then I’m to go to the washwomen and tell them that she found a gravy stain on one of her dresses, and that she would never get gravy on one of her dresses, and that they must have done it, and if she ever finds they do that again, she’ll have their heads chopped off. I don’t want to say that to them, they’re nice.” She touched the pretty silver braiding on the sleeve of Giller’s robes. “But she said that if I don’t say it, I’ll be in a lot of trouble.”
Giller nodded. “Well, just do as she says, I’m sure the washwomen will know they aren’t really your words.”

Source text - English From OurWorld International News Hour, 21 June, 2036: Kate Manzoni (to camera): ...The real possibility, revealed exclusively here, of armed conflict between Scotland and England – and therefore, of course, involving the United States as a whole – is the most significant development in what is becoming the central story of our unfolding century: the battle for water.
The figures are stark. Less than one per cent of the world’ s water supply is suitable and accessible for human use. As cities expand, and less land is left available for farming, the demand for water is increasing sharply. In parts of Asia, the Mid East and Africa, the available surface water is already fully used, and groundwater levels have been falling for decades.
Back at the turn of the century ten per cent of the world’ s population did not have enough water to drink. Now that figure has tripled – and it is expected to reach a startling seventy per cent by 2050.
We have become used to seeing bloody conflicts over water – for example in China, and over the waters of the Nile, the Euphrates, the Ganges and the Amazon – places where the diminishing resource has to be shared, or where one neighbour is perceived, rightly or wrongly, as having more water than it requires. In this country, there have been calls in Congress for the Administration to put more pressure on the Canadian and Quebecois governments to release more water to the US, particularly the desertifying Midwest.

Source text - English THE LAY OF THE LAND
In 1197, Jerusalem rests well within the borders of the sultanate founded by Salah al-Din. The lands east of the Jordan River, formerly controlled by the Atabegs of Mosul, fell during Salah al-Din’ s campaign of 1174, and the crusaders’ Kingdom of Jerusalem collapsed between 1187 and 1189. Salah al-Din’ s successor lacks his genius but can at least maintain (for the time being) his conquests. A consistent law holds sway over almost all of the contested Holy Land. The second “ Kingdom of Jerusalem” doesn’t actually include Jerusalem: It consists only of the cities of the coast that Richard I managed to conquer in the Third Crusade.
THE COAST
The route from Jerusalem to the coast runs through Lydda to Jaffa. It’ s 50 miles, angling a bit north of due west from Jerusalem. From there, the coastal road heads north through Caesarea, Tyre and Sidon to what had been the northern border of the Kingdom of Jerusalem. It enters the former Kingdom of Tripoli, passing through Tripoli to the Hospitaller stronghold at Marqab (Margate, as the Hospitallers call it).
The coast road also leads south. Gaza marks where the old border of Fatimid territory lay, before Salah al-Din’ s conquests. The road continues to Farama and Damietta at the eastern edge of the Nile River delta, then turns south along the banks of the Nile to Cairo. It’ s 40 miles from Jaffa to Gaza; it’ s also about 40 miles from Lydda, where a side road curves southwest away from the main road to Jaffa, to Gaza. Then the traveler faces 150 miles of desert cost before getting to Farama, and another 50 to reach Damietta.
