Source text - Arabic من كان ليتخيل هذه الظروف التي ألمت بالعالم مع بدايات العام الحالي؟ نحن الآن في شهر ديسمبر 2020! كيف سُرق الزمن هكذا؟ توقفت الأعمال، واضطربت الخطط الشخصية، ولزم الناس منازلهم. لقد تبخر الوقت بين حَجْرٍ وعزل، وإجراءات احترازية، وخوف، وقلق، وتوتر، وملل. وبين من احتاروا في تمضية الوقت الغريب الفنانون، وكباقي الناس عرف بعضهم كيف يستغل الوقت المتوفر بين يديه، وكثيرون انغلقوا على أنفسهم مستشعرين الحيرة والقلق من الأحداث غير الاعتيادية. فكانت انطباعات كل منهم عن شعورهم إزاء هذه الفترة هي ما سعينا لرصده هنا في هذا المعرض، بهدف أن يشارك بعضنا بعضًا تجاربنا ومشاعرنا خلال هذه الفترة الحرجة.
Translation - English Who could have foreseen the events that overtook the world at the start of this year? We are already in December 2020! Where has the time gone? Work has halted, personal plans have been disrupted, and people have been confined to their homes. Time has evaporated between quarantine, isolation, precautionary measures, fear, anxiety, stress, and boredom. Among those who were confounded on how to spend this abnormal period were artists; like most people, some knew how to use their time wisely, while many closed in on themselves, feeling confused and anxious about these unusual circumstances. Their impressions of how they felt about that time were what we sought to observe in this exhibition, with the aim of sharing our own experiences and feelings during this critical phase with each other.

Source text - Arabic The artwork is based on the implementation of text with various knots and frills, overlapped and harmonized in a nontraditional manner, considering text as a decorative matter without adhering to known technical rules or limits while preserving the key attributes of text, whether Arabic or Latin, for the receiving audience to recognize the character’s essence.
The artwork is built on an aphorism, poetry, phrase, or insight that has a significance or sends a message without being tied to a certain limit or known tradition to affirm an innovative vision that has an impact on the viewer in a way that connects her/him to the artwork, allowing them to wander through the unbound vocabulary, interactions, and unusual artistic, while preserving the character of each of the various artistic elements..
The period of home quarantine due to COVID-19 pandemic was an opportunity to confront ourselves, our inner reactions and feelings, engaging into a long silent dialogue with ourselves so that the artwork carries content and meaning that speaks to the onlooker’s soul and subconscious before his mind.
Translation - English يقوم العمل على استخدام الحروف العربية واللاتينية والزخارف المختلفة في تناغم وتداخلات معقدة غير تقليدية. اعتُبرت الحروف مفردات زخرفية، دون الالتزام بالقوانين التقليدية المتعارف عليها، مع الحفاظ على شخصية الحرف ليتبيَّن للمتلقي ماهية الحرف. العمل مبني على فكرة، أو مقولة، أو بيت شعر ذي دلالة أو رسالة، دون تقيُّد بالحدود والقوانين الفنية المتعارف عليها، لتأكيد رؤية مبتكرة يكون لها تأثير على المتلقي بشكل يربطه بالعمل لفترة زمنية يتجول خلالها بين مفردات، وتداخلات، وعلاقات فنية غير مألوفة وغير مقيدة بحدود، مع الحفاظ على شخصية كل عنصر من عناصر العمل الفنية المختلفة. وكان الحصار المنزلي خلال فترة الحجر الصحي بسبب جائحة فيروس سارس كورونا 2 فرصة لكي نواجه أنفسنا وانفعالاتنا ومشاعرنا، ويدخل كلٌّ منا مع ذاته في حوار صامت، ليخرج عملًا ذا مضمون ودلالة تخاطب عقل وروح المتلقي، قبل أن تخاطب عينيه وعقله.
Arabic to English: 10th Anniversary of the Alexandria Center for Hellenistic Studies
Source text - Arabic For more than two thousand years, Alexandria was not only the capital and the largest city in Egypt, but also the leading cultural center of the ancient world. The world that embraced the ancient Library Alexandria and gathered people of different religions and cultures.
Alexandria was once the center of the Hellenistic Empire, and the hub of scholarship and commerce in the ancient world. The Hellenistic period covers the time in Mediterranean history between the death of Alexander the Great in 323 BC and the emergence of the Roman Empire as signified by the Battle of Actium in 31 BC and the Roman annexation of Egypt in 30 BC.
That period is characterized by an endless struggle between the Hellenistic kingdoms which formed Alexander the Great's former empire. It is also significant for its great cultural, architectural and scientific advancements and innovations, including the creation and development of libraries, the most famous being in Alexandria.
Some of the ancient world’s great minds who lived and worked during the Hellenistic Period are Aristotle, Menander, Epicure, Eratosthenes, Euclid, Archimedes, Polybius and others.
Despite its importance, however, very few academic programs focus on Hellenistic studies. The Alexandria Center for Hellenistic Studies (ACHS) in Alexandria was most appropriate in filling this gap and focus on this rich period and its immense contributions to human knowledge.
The initial idea of establishing the Center came from the Director of the BA in 2008. It was brought forward to the President of Alexandria University and Dean of Faculty of Arts who were very supportive of the idea. The Director of BA took the responsibility of securing the funding through two of the biggest cultural institutions in Athens; Onasis Foundation and Vardinoyannis Foundation.
The mission of the ACHS is to revive the classical collaboration between Egypt and Greece that led to Alexandria’s prominence as a leading educational establishment in the ancient world. By offering opportunities for distinguished academic research using cutting-edge technology, and the exchange of expertise and learning, the Center draws scholars from around the world and ensures an international academic standard and a specialized knowledge about the Hellenistic world.
Symbolized by the Lighthouse of Alexandria, humanism and multiculturalism are the values promoted by Alexander the Great and upheld by the Center. Students at the Center are keen to study at a postgraduate level, diploma, master and doctoral degrees in Hellenistic studies, and to learn critical thinking and acquire a historical understanding of both the past and the present.
The center’s academic responsibilities (ACHS) has always been involved in public awareness of cultural heritage and archaeology. Over the past decade various activities and events were organized in collaboration with international and national institutions; including public lectures, international workshops, seminars, conferences, exhibitions and publications, all of which are announced on the ACHS Facebook and website, the BA website and in national newspapers.
Translation - English لأكثر من ألفي عام، لم تكن الإسكندرية عاصمة مصر وأكبر مدنها فحسب، بل كانت أيضًا المركز الثقافي الرائد في العالم القديم. لقد احتضن العالم مكتبة الإسكندرية القديمة، التي بدورها جمعت الناس من مختلف الديانات والثقافات.
كانت الإسكندرية ذات يوم مركزًا للإمبراطورية الهلينستية، ومشكاة للعلم والتجارة في العالم القديم. وتشمل الحقبة الهلينستية تاريخ البحر المتوسط بين وفاة الإسكندر الأكبر عام 323 قبل الميلاد، وظهور الإمبراطورية الرومانية بدءًا بمعركة أكتيوم في 31 قبل الميلاد والاحتلال الروماني لمصر في 30 قبل الميلاد.

من أعظم عقول العالم القديم الذين عاشوا وعملوا خلال الحقبة الهلينستية أرسطو، وميناندر، وإبيقور، وإراتوستينس، وإقليدس، وأرخميدس، وبوليبيوس وغيرهم.
على الرغم من أهميتها، فإن القليل فقط من البرامج الأكاديمية تُركِّز على الدراسات الهلينستية. لذا أصبح مركز الإسكندرية للدراسات الهلينستية هو الأجدر بسد هذه الفجوة، من خلال التركيز على مساهمة هذه الفترة الغنية في المعرفة الإنسانية.
جاءت الفكرة الأولى لتأسيس المركز من مدير مكتبة الإسكندرية عام 2008، وتم طرحها على رئيس جامعة الإسكندرية وعميد كلية الآداب اللذين دعما الفكرة بشدة. وقد تولى مدير مكتبة الإسكندرية مسئولية تأمين التمويل من خلال اثنتين من أكبر المؤسسات الثقافية في أثينا؛ مؤسسة أوناسيس ومؤسسة فاردينويانيس.
مهمة مركز الإسكندرية للدراسات الهلينستية هي إحياء التعاون القديم بين مصر واليونان، والذي أدى إلى بروز مكتبة الإسكندرية كمؤسسة تعليمية رائدة في العالم القديم. من خلال توفير فرص البحث الأكاديمي المتميز باستخدام التكنولوجيا المتطورة، وتبادل الخبرات والتعلم؛ يستقطب المركز العلماء من جميع أنحاء العالم، ويضمن وجود معيار أكاديمي دولي، ومعرفة متخصصة حول العالم الهلينستي.
حاملًا رمز منارة الإسكندرية، تعد الإنسانية والتعددية الثقافية من القيم التي روَّج لها الإسكندر الأكبر ويدعمها المركز. يحرص الطلاب في المركز على التسجيل في برامج الدراسات العليا، والدبلومات، ودرجتي الماجستير والدكتوراه في الدراسات الهلينستية، وتعلُّم التفكير النقدي، واكتساب فهم تاريخي للماضي والحاضر.
لطالما كانت المساعي الأكاديمية للمركز تشارك في توعية الجمهور بالتراث الثقافي وعلم الآثار. وخلال العقد الماضي، نظَّم المركز العديد من الأنشطة والفعاليات بالتعاون مع المؤسسات الدولية والوطنية؛ بما في ذلك المحاضرات العامة وورش العمل الدولية والندوات والمؤتمرات والمعارض والمنشورات، والتي يتم الإعلان عنها جميعًا على صفحة المركز على الفيسبوك، وموقعه الإلكتروني، وموقع مكتبة الإسكندرية، وفي الصحف الوطنية.
