Updates
June 2009
I finished translating Kazat Akmatov's novel "Arhat" last summer. Kazat is a terrific, fearless storyteller and his book, while a challenge to translate, was a real page-turner. By the end of our collaboration I think he was tired of my constant nitpicking questions ("You refer to a flower using its Kyrgyz name on p. 293. Could you please review the attached photographs and tell me which one is the flower you had in mind?"), but he was gracious and helpful the whole time.
In other news, I've reanimated my Language Digger blog. Suggestions and feedback welcome!
September 2008
Exciting news: "Strangers," an excellent screenplay by Anastasia Pozhidaeva, won the Atlantis award at the Moondance 2008 film festival. I enjoyed translating "Strangers" so much that it didn't even feel like work - hooray for Anastasia!
July 2008
Big Project: I am finishing translating a novel, working for existing clients and moving back to Russia - all this August!

New Software: I've been using Final Draft for two months now, and it's been a super time saver. I translated three screenplays in May and June, each around 100 pages. The formatting looks more professional and the typing went much faster. Another plus: the program imports/exports Word and PDF files, so I can even use it with clients who do not have Final Draft.
