Polish to English: Prywatna wojna – A Private War
Source text - Polish Toczyli ją w latach 1607-1610 na terenie ziemi przemyskiej Stanisław Stadnicki, zwanym Diabłem Łańcuckim i Łukasz Opaliński, starosta leżajski i marszałek nadworny koronny. Zbrojni Stadnickiego kilkakrotnie niszczyli siedzibę Opalińskiego w Łące k. Rzeszowa, okoliczne wsie, a także dobra starostwa leżajskiego i sam Leżajsk. Po jednej z bitew, w której brało udział po kilkuset najemnych żołnierzy z każdej strony, oddziały Opalińskiego zdobyły siedzibę Diabła - Łańcut, plądrując zamek i miasto. Mimo mediacji najwyższych urzędników koronnych, senatu i króla Zygmunta III Wazy, wojna trwała. Jej kres położyła dopiero śmierć Stadnickiego zadana przez ludzi Opalińskiego w sierpniu 1610 roku. Był to jeden z najbardziej krwawych i najdłużej trwających konfliktów magnackich w dawnej Rzeczypospolitej.	Translation - English This war between two noblemen (Stanisław Stadnicki, known as the Devil of Łańcut, and Łukasz Opaliński, the Grand Marshal of the Crown and the starost of the Leżajsk district) took place in the greater Przemyśl area from 1607 to 1610. Armed soldiers hired by Stadnicki repeatedly destroyed Opaliński’s residence in Łąka by Rzeszów, as well as surrounding villages, land property of the Leżajsk district, and the town of Leżajsk itself. Following one battle (with several hundred mercenaries participating on each side), Opaliński's troops captured Łańcut, the home of the Devil, plundering the castle and the town. Despite mediation efforts by the highest officials of the crown, the Senate, and King Sigismund III Vasa himself, the war continued. Only after Opaliński’s soldiers executed Stadnicki in August of 1610, did the war come to an end. It had been one of the bloodiest and longest-running conflicts between two noblemen in the former Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth.

Source text - Polish Samo uświadomienie mojej roli nastąpiło w Szkole Animatorów Społecznych. Na jednych z pierwszych zajęć była poruszana kwestia różnic między liderem a animatorem. I próbowałam siebie zdiagnozować, „kim jestem”, i okazało się, że w tych działaniach, które do tej pory realizowałam, byłam bardziej liderem. Ale potem sobie uświadomiłam, że nie wynika to z mojej natury, lecz wymuszane jest przez bezradność ludzi, wśród których żyję. Gdybym od razu weszła tam jako animator, to by nie miało prawa nic się tam wydarzyć. Tam przecież nikt niczego nie wie o funduszach, pisaniu projektów, o robieniu czegoś samodzielnie, itd. Czekają na coś z góry. Samą animacją nie ruszyłabym tego. Animator plus prężni liderzy – byłoby super. Ale tu byłam sama i musiałam się wcielić w obie role. Tu nie było dyskusji. Naturalną rolą byłą rola lidera. Natomiast teraz idzie coraz lepiej i coraz częściej mam okazję wcielać się w rolę animatora. A to dlatego, że w moim otoczeniu jest coraz więcej młodych, chcących działać ludzi, którym spokojnie mogę przekazywać sprawy liderowania grupy.	Translation - English It was during the training at the School of Social Animators that I became aware of my role. The difference between a leader and an animator was discussed during one of the first meetings. So then I tried to diagnose myself by asking, “Who am I?” and it turned out that in all the things I had done up to that point, I had been more of a leader. I realized later that this was not because of my own nature, but because the situation – the helplessness of the people around me – warranted it. Had I gone in there as an animator, nothing would have happened. No one there knew anything about funding, the writing of projects or doing something independently. They were waiting for things to fall out of the sky. Had I been just an animator, I would not have been able to change that. An animator plus some strong, dynamic leaders – that would’ve been great, but I was alone here and I had to take on both roles. There were no options here. The leader role came naturally and now, as everything is getting better and better, I more and more often get the chance to become an animator. And that’s because there’s more and more young people around me, who want to be active and I can safely delegate the responsibilities of leading a group to them.

Source text - Polish Podczas analizy problemu zdiagnozowano, że w rodzinach objętych pomocą społeczną żyje ponad 600 uczniów z różnych bocheńskich szkół. Problemy materialne są jednym z czynników ograniczającym rozwój uczniów. Przekładają się one na ograniczenia dostępu do edukacji pozaszkolnej, korzystania z nowych technologii informacyjnych czy poznawania świata. Kolejną barierą w rozwoju młodych ludzi w Bochni, poza sytuacją ekonomiczną, jest niedostateczna świadomość znaczenia edukacji dla młodego człowieka, dla przyszłej jego pozycji: na rynku pracy i w społeczności. Uczniowie, którzy mają ograniczone możliwości pogłębiania wiedzy, mają problemy w nauce i łatwo się zniechęcają. W pewnej mierze uznają się za gorszych, rosną w przeświadczeniu o swojej ograniczonej roli społecznej i nikłych szansach awansu zawodowego i samorealizacji. Prowadzi to do niskiej samooceny, bierności i zaniku aktywności w rozwoju intelektualnym, braku samodzielności w podejmowaniu decyzji i odpowiedzialności za swoje decyzje, braku kontaktów z innymi społecznościami; zamykanie się w kręgu wąskich środowisk sprzyja powstawaniu stereotypów.	Translation - English During the preliminary analysis, it was determined that over 600 Bochnia students come from families living on social support. Financial hardship is one of the elements limiting the students’ development, as it leads to limited access to extracurricular activities, new technology and new opportunities for exploring one’s world. Aside from the difficult economic situation, there is little awareness of the fact that education plays a significant role in determining a young person’s future position in society and on the job market, which constitutes another obstacle for the development of young people in Bochnia. Students, whose opportunities for deepening their knowledge are limited, have problems in school and easily become discouraged. In a sense, they see themselves as inferior and they grow in their unfortunate conviction that their role in society is limited and their chances for professional advancement and self-realization minimal. This leads to low self-esteem, intellectual passivity and incapacity to take an active part in one’s own intellectual development, as well as an inability to make independent decisions and take responsibility for them. Furthermore, it contributes to the creation of stereotypes, because young people isolate themselves in small social groups where there is little exchange with people from other backgrounds.

Teraz jest po wyborach i czekamy na konkretne posunięcia rządu pana Marcinkiewicza – mówił "Gazecie" Martin Schulz, szef frakcji socjalistów w Parlamencie Europejskim. Source text - Polish W metodzie semiwariancji zakłada się, że korelacja pomiędzy punktami pomiarowymi zmniejsza się w miarę wzrostu odległości i zanika po przekroczeniu pewnej granicznej odległości. Wykresem semiwariancji w funkcji tej odległości jest semiwariogram. Charakteryzują go 3 punkty: wartość progowa, promień oddziaływania i podstawa semiwariogramu. Podstawa semiwariogramu to najmniejsza wartość semiwariancji przy odległości zerowej. W praktyce często semiwariancja nie osiąga wartości zerowej, co jest powodowane występowaniem pewnych „zakłóceń” wynikających m.in. z: błędów pomiarowych, określonego schematu próbkowania, zmienności czasowej danych itp. Wraz ze wzrostem odległości semiwariancja rośnie i zazwyczaj po przekroczeniu pewnej granicznej odległości, zwanej promieniem oddziaływania, oscyluje wokół stałej wartości – wartości progowej. Promień oddziaływania wyznacza odległość, powyżej której zanika przestrzenne skorelowanie punktów, co jest w praktyce wykorzystywane w statystycznych metodach interpolacji (kriging).	Translation - English Using the semivariance method, one assumes that the correlation between the data points decreases as the distance increases and ceases to exist once the distance exceeds a certain limit. The graph showing the semivariance as a function of this distance is the semivariogram, which is characterized by having 3 points: the threshold, the range and the nugget variance. The nugget variance is the lowest value of the semivariance, given the distance of 0. In practice, the semivariance often does not reach the value of 0, due to “interference” which can be caused by measurement errors, the sampling method used, variations in the data occurring over time etc., among other factors. Semivariance increases with distance and usually, after exceeding a certain limit, called the range, it oscillates around a constant value – the threshold. The range specifies the distance beyond which the spatial correlation between the points disappears. This is used in practice in statistical interpolation methods (“kriging”).
