La QoL fue medida mediante el CHI-CE, un instrumento configurado como una escala tipo Likert con cinco dimensiones: satisfaction, comfort, resilience, risk avoidance and achievement. Un test MANOVA en el que las puntaciones de las diferentes dimensiones se utilizan como variables dependientes, como factores fijos las categorías de actividad física, el género y los percentiles de BMI, y como co-variable la edad, mostró: 1) que las puntuaciones de los escolares activos eran significativamente mejores que las de los sedentarios en todas las dimensiones, excepto en evitación de riesgos, 2) que no había diferencias significativas en la QoL por categoría de estatus ponderal, y 3) que las niñas mostraban mejores puntuaciones medias que los niños en resistencia, evitación de riesgos y funciones (achievement), y peores en bienestar (comfort). Estos resultados sugieren que los escolares activos tienen mejor QoL, y que las diferencias por género a favor de los chicos se mitigan e incluso cambian de dirección en las chicas activas. | Translation - Spanish The authors examined differences in quality of life (QoL) between active and sedentary students and analyzed these differences in relation to gender and weight status. A total of 1409 children aged 11 to 13 years from 20 schools located in 20 municipalities of the province of Cuenca were invited to participate in a cross-sectional study; 1073 children agreed (76.15% response rate), of which 536 (49.9%) were boys. Quality of life (QoL) was measured with CHIP-CE (Child Health and Illness Profile-Child Edition), an instrument measuring children’s perception of their own health using a Likert type scale with five dimensions: satisfaction, comfort, resilience, risk avoidance, and achievement. Multiple analysis of variance (MANOVA) using the scores of the different CHIP-CE dimensions as dependent variables, physical activity, gender and BMI percentiles as categorical variates, and age as co-variate showed that: 1) scores of active students were significantly better than scores of sedentary students for every dimension except risk avoidance, 2) there were no significant differences in QoL by weight category, and 3) girls had better mean scores than boys for resilience, risk avoidance, and achievement, and worse scores for comfort. These results suggest that active students have a better QoL and that gender differences favoring boys diminish or even reverse to favor active girls. |
