My initial introduction to the field of translation—equipped with a wealth of knowledge gained during a degree in modern languages and literature at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice—was unassuming and almost incidental. Then, over time, I began to actively seek out and embrace it, captivated by the idea of conveying a message from one language into another through the art of the written word. Everything else—everything that made and continues to make this profession such an endlessly rewarding experience—flowed from that: conjuring emotions through writing, taking specialist courses for translators, acquiring the tools of the professional translator’s trade—such as SDL Trados Studio and Memsource Editor—acquiring specialist terminology in my chosen fields (business communication and marketing), the history and literature that underpin a nation’s culture and psyche and enable you to connect you to the soul of its people, the engaging exploration of the psychology of languages and communication, phonetics...the entire worlds that can be encapsulated within a language, that strangest of beasts. My translations are a conduit for the source text to shine through, always flowing naturally in the target language and sweeping the reader’s attention with it, as if it were not a translation at all. That is why much of my work is with companies and businesses who do not seek to merely translate their own words into another language, but rather who wish to speak the language of the (Italian) consumer, because the primary goal is clear: Making sales, naturalmente. At the same time, and staying within the same professional context, I continue to develop my creative and literary portfolio. I have translated into Italian Lev Tolstoj’s Anna Karenina, AndrejTarkovsky’s La forma dell'anima, (original title: “Lekcie po kinorežissure”) and "La mia vita nel teatro russo" by Vladimir Nemirovich-Danchenko, original title: “Iz prošlovo”. In 2016, Raffaelli Editore published a collection of my poems entitled Notte (“Night”) and in 2021 Pequod published my second collection of poems: "Il sonno del mondo". Several of my poems have also appeared in international and Italian publications, including the Gradiva International Journal of Italian Poetry (Olschki).
